Isn't this what you do to induce SP?
I've been really stressed lately, and I'm trying to find new ways to relax myself. I found this website (http://www.trance.dircon.co.uk/5ways.html) and I read about focusing on your breathing. Last night, for the hell of it, I tried the method they gave for relaxing by focusing on your breathing while trying to fall asleep. And to my surprise, I almost fell right into a lucid dream. Maybe it was just my imagination. I'm not sure. I kept pulling myself back.
I have a hard time with WILDs but on the first attempt of just merely focusing on my breathing, I felt like I almost went straight into lucidity. Am I being silly, or could this be a good way of inducing a LD? I know enough about lucid dreaming, but not nearly enough to know if what I'm doing will actually work.
I know people will probably tell me that things are different for everyone, which is true because I can't WILD for the life of me. I know you have to be asleep for such a period of time before WILDing, so I didn't know if me slipping into lucidity right away from this relaxation technique could really work.
Can I get some opinions?

Well one of the ways that people use to WILD is the breathing technique. This also happens to be the one that worked for me. It is possible to WILD without having slept for hours first - it is just harder for most people to keep concious if they are really tired.
schmo-- im not sure about the SP thing. I've really only experienced it once that i'm aware of, and that's when it leaked into my dream and i was paralyzed in my dream.
amelaclya-- i'm glad you told me it IS possible to WILD without sleeping first. when i joined this site and first found out about this whole LD thing, that's what i would try to do when WILDing. i would try it before sleeping at all. and i was unsuccessful with it and was told you have to be sleeping first. so thank you for clearing that up for me.
maybe i'll give it another go tonight. but not sure how good it will be. i'm rather excited about the red sox winning the world series![]()

I guess the techniques mentioned on that page could work, but if you want real relaxation I would recommend that you learn deep muscle relaxation. If you search the web you can find lots of how-to information, like here for instance: http://www.guidetopsychology.com/pmr.htm. It may take you several weeks to master, but when you get the hang of it you'll be able to relax very deeply in only seconds. I have no idea whether this will improve your chances of WILDing, though.
I tried the Full PMR last night as I was going to sleep, and it really did make me relax. I think after a few weeks, I'll get it down really good. Thanks for the advice, Thor!
Even when you dont succeed. Just the relaxation and SP attempt in the evening somehow helps to induce DILDs. The brain is more active and body more asleep than in standard sleep.
