      Staying awake whilst WILDing

      Hi there.

My adopter is not here, so I put this question into the faithful hands of the public...

This morning I was trying to WILD. I was using BillyBob's "The Guide To End All Guides". I was using the counting technique where I would count in my head until I reached a stage of total tranquility.
Although, when I got past number 150, I found it harder to concentrate on counting. Like, I would say to myself, "Goddamit, concentrate on counting..." and I would for a few numbers, but then I would slip back into random thought mode. Like, I knew that I was not concentrating on my counting but there wasn't anything I could do about it.

So, the question is, how do you keep up your counting when you get to those higher numbers?

Additional details: I had a shower before my WILD because I thought that would help me succeed because of the drop in body temperature after getting out of the hot water. That might help...

      Thanks all.

I have this exact same problem, I have finally given up on WILD's... Though, if someone comes up with an answer to this question, I might try taking it up again.

Counting is a really crappy way to do a wild, no offence to anyone but this really rarely works for anyone. You concentrate so much on counting it could take hours for you to fall asleep. The trick is to use an anchor. Something that will keep your attention even as you fall asleep. I like to use earplugs because it's hard not to notice them, but they're comfortable enough to fall asleep with. Just find a good anchor, try to fall asleep quickly, but use your anchor to keep you conscious. Billybob's tutorial explains it a lot better than me though.

I can wake up after 6.5 hours of sleep, stay up for 10 minutes, then complete a wild in about 5-15 minutes. I have a pretty good success rate too.

The problem with counting is you have to fall asleep to do a wild. When you're about to fall asleep your mind wanders a lot. That's why you use an anchor - to keep your attention even when your mind wanders.

      Good luck.

Having lapses in counting is normal in my opinion. During the day you're not constantly keeping your thought process in check, so it makes sense that trying to do it out of nowhere at night will not be easy. As well, I tend to stop counting or lose count when I'm getting sleepy or in that dreamy state.

As long as you start counting again after you realize that you stopped, I think it's fine.

Edit: On another note, I have to agree with blahaha about using counting to WILD. I've tried it before and fell asleep. Now I just use counting to occupy myself for regular sleep.

read a book, or read these forums before you go to sleep. that way, if your mind does start to wonder, it will most likely wonder into your fantasey lucid dream, you will then imidiatly remember that you are meant to be WILDing and snap out of the daydream.

a qucik note: i find that i can somtimes be To concious to WILD..... because everyone uses the expression that you trick your body to go to sleep, well you are infact tricking a part of your brain that controls the body (lets call it the 'body brain').

so it is one part of the brain tricking the other, and if there is too much activity in the main part of your brain, the 'body brain' will realise this and see that the main part of the brain is not asleep = no WILD.

so the question is, what mind exersise can we do that stops us falling asleep altogether, BUT at the same time doesnt alert the 'body brain'?

ok, bit longer than a 'quick note'.
sorry if i explained things in a bad way

Incredible! that's my main problem, and maybe, the main problem of too much people here....
I have the same question...what can we do to don't alert the body brain???

I'm not joking but if you masturbate and then meditate you will be focused but enter wild in a snap

This morning I counted to 150, when I got super numb and I put my hand out it was my dream body (ended up having a FA)

You could try imagining yourself somewhere, like a VILD. That takes all your attention which helps your focus.. or at least it helps me..
      keep trying and good luck!
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

listen,i've done the counting crap to many times, the best it has ever gotten me was to the point where my body goes really numb and nothing, the reason you can't enter a dream is because you are too focused, and the other part of your brain knows that the concious part is being used a lot,so im find a better method the counting
