      Vivid, full lucid dream - DEILD fails after?

      I had a crazy lucid dream last night, performed tons of reality checks and even tried flying (gotta work on that). ^^;

      The lights in the area suddenly dimmed, and it felt as if my dream was going to end. So, I told myself that I would DEILD and not move as soon as I woke up and felt my bed.

      I woke up, but didn't move my eyelids or limbs, or anything.
      I waited a long time (probably five minutes or so), but didn't feel any form of SP or see any HI. I finally made the choice to get up and do RCs to try and see if this was a false awakening, but I was not dreaming. Any explanation as to why I failed this? It was a perfect opportunity to DEILD and chain a second lucid dream on, but... =(

      Congrats on your lucid! I too had trouble with flying when I first started LDing, took me a few weeks to be able to do it properly. Whenever I prepare to DEILD, I try to stop moving and get ready as early as possible. As soon as my dream begins to fade, I stop moving within my dream and try to stay calm and relaxed. If you are tense, it can hurt your chances. Keep your mind relaxed as well and try to just "drift" into the next dream. A couple of times I have failed a DEILD attempt for seemingly no reason. I'm not sure if it had to do with my REM cycle ending or if it was something I did, but I suggest to keep trying it. In my experience, DEILDs don't fail often and are a great way to extend your LDs.       Thanks. I was real disappointed afterwards at 'wasting' another possible LD, but I think I know what was wrong now; I was too tense and excited, even though it was only my mind. I tried to calm down, but, I guess it wasn't enough.

      maybe FA?

      Did you make sure to reality check after you woke up? I once was lucid for around ten minutes, then it felt like I was waking up, and I was back in my bed. I thought "Ok, that was a good LD, time to start getting up". Everything was exactly like being awake for at least five minutes before dream weirdness set in. I spent the five minutes looking for a pencil and writing in my dream journal. When I woke up for real, I realized my dream journal was in another room. I sure kicked myself for that.

      The problem was, I was trying to DEILD. No movement, etcetera. I did reality check after I sat there for a few minutes though, and no dream. x(
