Hi...I'm Guardian and I have some tips for staying conscious while your body falls asleep.
I hope this helps you, this works for me. (If you have any question or even just feel like having someone to talk to, feel free to contact me any hour of any day/night here's my AIM screen name: Guardian123abc.
A ) Find a comfortable place and relax.
B) Close your eyes and calm your mind by picturing an enjoyable scenario, the more peaceful the better.
C) Concentrate on your breathing, don't try to make it happen...simply "allow" it to happen.
D) Look far into the darkness of your eyes being closed, and allow a picture to form, relaxing all the while.
E) Think of images with rythmic patterns in sounds, and a physical feeling while listening to it, like laying on grass with with freeway traffic in the background, or the melody of a favorite soft music while laying down on soft blankets. Imagine the physical feelings while you are invisioning listening to the rythmic patterns.
F) You may feel your body go numb because of the chemicals in your body that cause you to stay still while you sleep, so that you can have an undesturbed rest (this is how the body sleeps), don't worry about it and don't try to fight the feeling of losing that...if you do it will only frustrate you, raise your heart rate, and may wake you up. Instead, if you have an itch, scratch it and move on. If you feel uncomfortable, get yourself comfortable because only through mental comfortablility will you accomplis your goal
G) When you are comfortable and relaxed at this point, you'll be able to be more aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to the light in what you are picturing and the rythmic sounds you are creating.

Tips to remember:
Troubles with WILD
1) The goal is to be awake enough to enter a WILD, but not too awake to relax.
2) Sources such as caffeine are good ways to help in this, but try different things carefully to find what's works best, as results may vary.
3) Keep your mind focussed, and if you stray, simply return back to your focus and don't allow yourself to become frustrated.
