The exact same thing happend to me. I woke up in sp and started hearing noising and then looked beside my bed, and i saw a dark shadow figure moving towards me. So i fought back trying to move and a couple of seconds after i started feeling him shake him ( Vibrations of wild) i fought back and pushed him then he went away. So i would say yes i have fought back Sp before

I can recall about 5 instances of SP this year alone. One of those times it felt like torture, but I passed them off as nightmares the following day. That was before I joined DV!

What struck me as odd about that experience was the physical pain I felt. It lasted for about 5 minutes. I'm not talking a minor discomfort either.

Now I reason, if one can feel the generous, cool breeze or the feel of a gentle kiss, can one not expect feel AGONY in dreams?

That sounds terrifying! I have had SP on a couple different occasions, and while they weren't that bad, they were pretty scary. For me, it always feels like someone has belted me down to my bed and there is this figure near my feet (although I never SEE it, only somehow KNOW its there). Sometimes the figure will start touching my legs, other times the expectation is enough to cause fear - either way NOT good.

I don't think I've ever felt PAIN in my dreams though, only discomfort. Well, at least you're fighting back.

SP is famous for bringing a sense of evil. This is where the 'old hag' belief comes from. I've never experienced that exactly, but what I described above is unsettling.

Weeks ago, some clothes transformed into that figure.

I now believe sleep paralysis is one thing (not being able to move while half awake/asleep) and everything else is hallucinations.

Yes I think that is a commonly accepted theory. You wake up or partially wake up and your mind for some reason doesn't release the paralysis it has placed your body in for REM sleep, but can see, hear, smell, etc... which results in instant panic/fear and then triggers auditory hallucinations, hypnotic imagery, heavy weight on chest, etc...

I've had this a few times. The first time I tried to sit up to see what was going on/fight back/whatever but it is not really of much use. Probably the best thing to do is just close your eyes, calm down, and tell yourself it isn't real. It should then go away fairly quickly, and you should wake up un-paralyzed then. Or if you are lucky, you may be able to enter a dream with a good chance of being lucid...

hmm maybe could be a useful (though scary) technique... old hag induced lucid dreaming... anyone who has frequent "old hag" incidents care to spearhead the development?

Yes indeed, one can feel pain in dreams. I just had a rather odd episode with that just last night, as I said in my latest post here: http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21392

As for sleep paralysis, I've had it, but never had anything like that... Just the everyday "I'm paralyzed! I'm going to die!" feeling.

Hi all new to this forum today but I have had LDs, SP, and other sleep "disorders" since I was a young child.

Yes it is possible to feel absolute agony in dreams. This is actually how I developed my lucid ability. The pain allowed me to realize that the situation couldn't possible be happening to me - and awoke me to the world of lucid dreams.

As a child I had terrible nightmares with full feeling. Anything physical - good or bad - feels as real as when I am awake. The worst I had (and still sometimes have but can quickly control) were dreams of being tied down and slowly cut with a knife. I could feel every buring tear on my skin as if it was real. Even today I fully feel pain in my dreams, from being shot, stabbed, punched, - stung by bees; you get the point. If the pain awakens me, I can still feel the lingering affects for several minutes after becoming fully awake.

We can expect all our senses to be fully active even within the dreams! I would only be worried if bruises or the like mysteriously appeared where obvious dream damage was acquired.

hmm,

I almost never feel extreme pain in dreams. maybe its from playing too many video games, where getting hurt/shot doesn't actually hurt.

On the downside, most of my lucid dreams are hazy and/or short.


also, i almost never find myself in sleep paralysis. some times i'll wake myself up by moving to fast.

Dang, Jpotter, and I thought it was uncommon... I end up feeling pain in a lot of my dreams as well. Thankfully I don't get really intense pain--nothing worse than, say, the level of a bad stomach cramp--but it does happen. Hmm. I do hope practicing lucid dreaming (which, in the past, always increased the vividness of normal dreams) won't add too much to that. I don't think I'd like it.

I did have severe nightmares when I was a kid, which was part of what forced me to learn how to control my dreams. Well, actually, I still have nightmares; but now they're not bad enough to worry about. At least three-quarters of what used to be "nightmare" is now merely "action/danger-filled dream".

Weirdly, I've never experienced sleep paralysis. Or, at least, I don't think I have--I've been aware of being unable to move, but I always knew that was simply because my body was asleep. Nothing like the classic fear-type sleep paralysis.
