The more times you become lucid, the less excited you will be and the more control you will have.
During my first few LDs I almost always awoke right off. They got longer as I gained more experience.
...conclusively what is the most effective method of retaining lucidity?
i want to explore the dreamworld once i get lucid, which is not such a big problem for me, but it fades too damn quick and i would rather not be spinning around all the time just because i have to...
short glances seem to work and looking at the floor or the hands seems to stabilise things...but what is the real SECRET OF STAYING LUCID?

Yes, experience is the best.
And the more you know, less time you will need to perform actions. So you will save time. (example - summoning objects)
I also want to try verbal commands and giving directives to my subconscious mind. Like give me a dreaming emmisary, let me spent xx amount of time in this dream. Compress time... etc etc etc...
yeah, my last LD, i was on a balcony and i wanted to get down to the ground level cos the president was coming along the road in his limo.
so i climbed down a tree which took a lot of energy and when i reached the bottom i thought why didnt i just levitate down or just will myself down there...then i lost lucidity.
so i agree yes experience is definitely the main thing because you gradually learn the best techniques for staying lucid which im starting to realise is a question of saving ENERGY, which is probably why whenyou look at your hands or the ground you get an energy boost which allows you to retain your lucidity...and doing things the quickest and easiest way (which ultimately seems to be just "willing" things to happen) is the best way to save energy and also to not get entangled in the details of the dream scenario...
which is probably the best way to save energy in waking life also.![]()
You got some right. Dreaming isn't the place to do deep thinking, like "Why didn't I do this instead of that?", because you will easily lose lucidity.
When you look at your hands in a dream you notice details; if your dreams start to fade out and become blurry (i.e: lose detail), that's one step closer to waking up or forgetting it is a dream.
yeah but ive also heard when you examine something too long youll lose lucidity ,is that true?
if you concentrate and think about it, yes...really its a matter of balancing concious and subconcious...if you allow your subconcious to take over, you forget you are dreaming and your concious goes away; on the flip side if you think too much, or use your concious mind too much, your unconcious mind gives up control of your body, which means you wake up...half and half is where its at

There you have it. Now, in my first LD's, i wouldn't wake up right away, i just wouldn't know what to do next to keep my mind 'awake' during sleep.
