How do i get extreme length in my dreams?

i got it a few times but it seems so pitiful compared to the expirienced people. i feel so noobish i couldnt remember my dream last night.

i really need some advice cuz im really tired of just spending a few seconds each nite trying to run fast.

      please lend me some advice

My LD's are not of "extreme" length, but they do carry on for a decent amount of time. Based on your written capture, I suspect your getting stressed out and hurrying up knowing you only have a few seconds. Well convincing yourself you only have a few seconds is the kiss of death.

Rather than rush, when you become lucid - do nothing. Just sit and look around. Get the feel for the situation. Tell yourself "here I am, I'm lucid again and if I relax and take my time I'll be here for a while".

Practice this strategy and I think you'll see a notable difference in your LD length.

that makes a lot of sense. but when i do become lucid, im usually taking advantage and doing a bunch of insane things s just standing there would sorta feel like a waste. ill try.

i ahve another question. whats the best way to meditate. i kno there is no certain way to do it but the only way ive found to meditate at all is to practice reaching sleep paralysis. it helps sometimes but i dont know if im actually getting anywhere.

Some ideas that worked for me..

First of all, its true what they say, a high level of excitement when you attain a lucid dream will usually end it very quickly,

so remember as soon as you are lucid stay calm, take deep slow breathes, get your head level, this will help you maintain at least the initial phase.

Now two methods I have both tried , tested and true ( at least for me ),

The hand method- When your dream starts to get fuzzy and you feel that you are about to wake up, lift your dream hand and look at it, now what you want to do is focus on it and make it more sharper and defined, if you can keep a state of focus in your lucid dream, you will make it last longer

The spin method ( very popular and for a reason ) - It indeed does work, if you feel yourself leaving the dream world, start spinning your dream body around and around and while doing this, keep the thought in your head, that when you stop spinning, your dream will be back and as vivid as it was, ( also the spin method is also good for changing scenery in your dream )

to sum it up, what you need is a calm mind and focus, and your dreams will be extended by many times,

These methods have worked for me, and countless others,

I wish you all the best with your dreams,

We are all in this journey together,

      Also for meditation..

      I regularly practice breathe meditation,

You can do this sitting or lying down,

Just close your eyes, and breathe deep into your belly, slowly let it out, slowly in and deep into your belly..

have no thoughts, but focus on the air entering your body and leaving...

within a few minutes, your body will be relaxed, your conciousness will be relaxed, and you can fall into a meditation which will open your mind to your underlying subconciousness, and also to my belief, the universe itself

Also to take it up another step , for healing of the body and mind, each time you breathe in , I like to imagine a glowing orb around the area of the solar plexus/stomach expanding with each breathe, and the energy spreading through my body on the exhale,

Its a way to centre yourself and let the body be open to the healing powers of the body and energies within and around it.

anyways, I have blabbed on enough

For longer lucids, don't get involved in the dream plot, and ignore more attractive dream elements. Also try to engage as many of your senses as possible, touch, smell, taste, the feeling of movement.

There are lots of ways to meditate. Prana, which is breath meditation, focusing on your energy centers (chakras), or even just emotional meditation, where you try to create an intense emotion and hold on to it. Keeping your mind clear of random thoughts is helpful for any of those techniques.

Keep your breathing slow and your heart rate down. Your dream body affects your real body. Faster breathing and higher heart rate means more oxygen in your system, which makes you more awake. The only way to curb your excitement is to make lucid dreaming a commonplace, that means experience. Expect some short, crappy lucids before you get to have really good ones. It'll be worth it though.

what you do is spawan a portal or door or somthing like that and think "when i go through this door i will have a lucid that will last for ___ days about ______" and hopefully when you go through you will have a verry long lucid.
i have not tried this but i have herd that it works

That would be extremely cool, and invaluable to the experience. Has anyone tried and succeeded with the portal method?

hmmm. I open portals all the time and it never leads to lucidity for days.

All kidding aside, dream time and real time run pretty similar. When people believe they have had a LD lasting for days they are being fooled by dream discontinuity.

Just like in a movie, sometimes there is a complete scene change from day to night for example and you feel like 12 hours have transpired.

Dreams work the same way. The discontinuity often makes you feel like much time has transpired when in reality, it was bound by roughly how long you were asleep and dreaming.

so waht your saying is no matter how long or how short our dreams seem it still only lasts the whole REM period..

Thats like defeating the purpose and destroying the lovely dreams (not literal dreams) of many people wanting to lead a second life on long dreams that last more than just a few seconds.

      ok:
1st. I hate to say it, but your spelling and grammar is horrible.
2nd. I have tried this technique, and it is AWESOME. i tried it once, and i said that my dream will last 20 minutes when i go into the portal. It WORKED. everyone try it.

You could try shouting "slow down time" when you become lucid, or "increase dream length" or something to that effect.

i felt so peacful inside and out it was like a drug. it felt so good.

The portal trick did not slow down time, it just motivated yourself to stay in the dream longer. The same amount of time passed by in the living world.

An old member in here had 5 hour long lucids sometimes, and he was lucid every night, and it's been like that since he was young. He had no technique, he was a natural, very amazing. The only problem about him, was that he could be making it up.

You should all remember though, that the REM periods usually stretch over 90 minutes. Just 30 minutes would be enough for me, if I had 1 each night. I wouldn't mind if it was 40 or maybe 50. That would require some pretty darn hardcore skills though

      I have very long lucids.

Due to people's skepticism, i'll leave it at that.

I think it has something to do with meditation.
I have theories, but that's all they really are.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

      Think of it this way...
You rush to get what you want to do in for those few seconds, and bam your lucidity is gone.

You sit back, relax, enjoy your lucidity for a minute... and you have already had a longer lucid dream than normal... Then you have many more minutes to do whatever it is you want to do. It's not a waste its like a battery, charge it

I had a lucid last night. I felt this "hurry up or your opportunity is lost" sensation during all the dream. I rushed to do my lucid goals and all vanished to blackness and then I had a false awakening. I think that when you have the idea that the dream will be short, you'll trick yourself into making it shorter. Perhaps you should simply convince yourself that the dream will last enough. Although is easier said than done, i'm afraid.

How 2 of my most recent LD's ended... closing my eyes. Do not close your eyes and try to imagine something so it'll appear. When u open them, u'll prolly be in ur bed, at least that is what it did for me. Others also say not to blink aswell. Also, like everyone else said, observe your surroundings. I felt like I as gonna fade out of a dream one time, and my vision got all black and patch, but I focused on my environment and everything was back and I continued on
