      Angry Stray thoughts

      Okay sooo...

Sometimes when I'm LDing I have a stray thought like "Someone could come around that corner and stab me" or "If I stand here a boulder could fall on my head." Usually stupid thing like that. But for some reason these thoughts get stuck in my head and it causes it to actually happen in the dream. I just want to know if there's any way to stop stray thoughts like that ruining my dream. Is there any way of saying to yourself "don't be ridiculus that will never happen".

Of course there is, just say to your self what you said at the end of your post and it will happen if you believe in it enough.

I have had similar stray/strange thoughts, but control them happening by saying 'that is stupid and could never happen' or 'don't be so stupid I don't want that to happen', or 'how strange I don't want that to happen'. Or of course something similar, but the point is to always believe in the thought being ridiculous or stupid in terms of it never happening or in terms of you not wanting it to happen at that moment or never and it will not happen.

Something like this is of course a mater of control over the dream and the more you believe in said control the more you can stop it from happening or make it happen

or you could continue with that though but change it to something like "Someone could come around that corner and stab me" "but if that happened i would pull out the knife a cut his throat" or "If I stand here a boulder could fall on my head." "but if that happened i would pick the boulder up and throw it away" or for an extra twist "Someone could come around that corner and stab me while a boulder falls on my head." "but if that happened i would pick up the boulder and throw it at the guy around the corner that wants to stab me"

That couldn't be farther from the truth. Belief is the biggest misconception about dreaming there is. There is no way to stop the unwanted effects of stray thoughts in dreams other than to practice mental discipline and meditation in real life.

Focusing on archetypes causes their associations to manifest. You can say to your self over and over "there are not going to be zombies, there are not going to be zombies" all you like, but that will just increase the likelyhood that zombies will appear in your dreams. For the simple reason that the concept of "not" has no meaning in dreams. Think of what you associate with the concept of zombie. Rotting flesh, canabalism, brain eating, infectious disease, the list goes on and on. Now think of association you make with the word "not". Negation, and... Can't think of much, can you? Certainly now as many association as you have with the concept of "zombie". That's why adding a "not" to zombie won't do anything, it's those associations that manifest when you focus your attention on any particular concept.

Sure, you could conteract those archetypes stray thought introduce with other archetypes like invincibility or super powers, but just remember everything requires your attention to exist in dreams. If you just ignore whatever negative aspects you create, they have no power.

^ Extrapolating on what Cusp said, if you randomly think "Crap zombies could appear and attack me," and they do, then (depending on how lucid you are, and how mentally strong you are in the knowledge that nothing can hurt you unless you believe it can), then just say "Noononono.... zombies? I haven't got time for this." And just ignore them and fly off into the sky or something (they'll all disappear if you don't pay attention to them, so just ignore them).

If it gets really bad, with things manifesting out of control, just wipe the entire slate clean. Put yourself in a Construction Room (I believe that's what the term is). That means a completely blank dream. All whiteness, with you in the center and nothing else at all. Then let your subconscious fill in a brand new setting, or create your own with your subconscious filling in the gaps for you (populating it, creating DCs, finer detail, etc).

(If you're wondering, it's called a Construction Room because some people wipe their dream clean like that and then use the lack of distractions to create stuff, like teleportation machines or superweapons and such. They then jump back into the dream with their creations and use them -- you can do whatever you want.)

Think of how easily we can slip out of the dream, now if your thoughts are stray, and fleeting like a dream, they probably wouldn't happen. But consciously thinking about it, and putting in effort will make your dream have whatever you have in your head.
