      Another question about dreamsigns

To my understanding, they are supposed to be things that are extremely uncommon or out-of-the-ordinary, in which case you use them to help you become lucid.
But wouldn't it be easier to pick one that's just nearly always in your dream, even if it is an almost everyday occurance in real life?

I would say "yes". A dreamsign doesn't necessarily have to be something odd -- like a flying pink elephant. It can be anything that you find to occur often in your dreams. If you can identify such a thing, remind yourself to do a RC every time you encounter it -- whether it be in real life or in a dream.

That is exactly what dream signs are. If you want to use dream signs they have to be things that happen very often in your dreams.

It may depend on your specific dreamsigns. For some people their dreamsigns occur only in dreams (e.g. teeth falling out, car brakes that don't work) With this type of dreamsign MILD techniques are helpful. You are building the expectation that when you see the dreamsign you will become lucid.

Other dreamsigns may be things that happen regularly in your dreams, and also in waking life. So you want to get in the practice of doing a reality check any time you see that thing. For example, I had some dreams about helicopters, so whenever I see a helicopter i do a reality check. If I'm dreaming and I do the reality check which fails, it will tell me I'm dreaming.

Its easier if your dreamsign is unique to the dreaming world. But not everyone has these.
