Thread: Computer dream diarys

Thanks The way I write my journal may seem overdone, but the point is to find something that works for you. I like to keep things organized so, this is the best way for me.

Using a PDA to record dreams would be pretty convienent. I would be interesting to see if anyone has tried this.

I use a voicerecorder (is that what a PDA is?) to record my dreams right after I woke up. It is very easy and the fastest way, you can even keep staying in your bed the same position you woke up in.
Later in the day, mostly in the evening, I type my dream(s) up and interpret them on the computer.

A PDA is a "personal digital assistant." Like if you've ever heard of a Palm Pilot or something similar. They are basically a handheld organizer that have an LCD screen and stylus to write with. Some even had cell phone built-in now.

I think the idea behind this was that you could write out your dreams on the PDA and transfer the data to your computer later. This would make it convenient to keep by your bed and with you all the time.

ahh ok.
But then you would still be writing?! For me speaking out the dream again right after I woke up seems a good method, for that I remember it more clearly, more connected ...

I tried a dictaphone. For me it woke my wife up n after that well it didn't work for me. My thought has been I'm ok writing, n would love to have a computer copy, as it seems there are a lot of versatile option's then. Tis too much effort for me to type up l8r.
Posted on a computer related forum to try n find out bout these things. Response seems to be I should be able to get one for 30-60 Euro, that'd do the job I want. I hope it can recognize my sleepy handwriting; which is not that great unfortunatly at the best of times.
In what computer format do you enter your info Burns? I got a Lucid dream related computer dream diary a few years ago, but didn't think much of it. There was one available that let you make links between your diary, dream diary n other things. I'd like to be able to search stuff like dream characters, note any changes, do some of the cool detailing you mentioned Burns.
I'd also like it to be attractive, n have ability to print up relatively attractive dream stuff. I'll miss my paper journel

I use a simple Microsoft Word document, and different colors of text to highlight certain areas.

I guess that does the job fine. have you experimented with any of the differant computer journal's available?

Nope, because the Word document seems to do what I need it to so there was no reason to change.

This may sound crazy, but I've been doing a school project on access (database program) so I made myself a nifty little database for my dreams when I was bored

It separates everything into sections, like the scene, characters, a title and a box for comments. If I really want to remember the dream I sometimes draw it out on graphics tablet and put it in its own space....

Of course I do all this after I am fully awake (I keep a notepad by my bed for quick recall)

EDIT: and as a plus, it has a password, so no-one can read my dreams when I'm not around

^^ That sounds really interesting. Have you used it yet? I wonder if some other members would be interested in using something like that.

I could perhaps post the program at some point, just gotta change a few things (and delete my dreams in it )

I forgot to say, I also added a 'title page' when you open it, which counts how many LDs you've had (works it out from the dreams you have entered).

I used to 'replay' the dreams in my mind once or twice, then I could remember them until morning when I'd add them to an excel spread sheet--that way I could sort them certain ways to see patterns. The patterns seemed to align with how stressed I was, or how happy I was.

I've gotten myself a PDA now, cost about 75 euro inc postage. The handwritting function works well on it. I still make some mistakes, but the letters you write are well formed, so it'll help my handwritting which is poor. I've written my dreams in it the last few nights, and have transfered them to the computer. I'll have a go of that program you share thanks Adam.
Overall it seems a good gadget so far. I know myself I wouldn't keep up re writing my dreams later. So this works. Also means I can carry them around to think about if I've time.
It's also useful for carrying loads of documents. When I was on a wake back to bed buzz before, I used to print up loads of articles on Lucid dreaming. Waste ful of paper, especially if your not sure it's goina be a good article. I am a bit of a gadget boy, but so far this seems like a well useful tool for my needs

Just been playin a bit with that Database you made Adam, pretty cool. Only bit I've not gotten yet is, is there a nice way to see the dream in full? In the dream form the box for description is quite small. I can't even make that page bigger. It'd be nice to be able to display any dream as much as possible. It seems like the bases for a great tool tho, well done!

But my ''dream diary'' is integrated in my Lucid Dreaming Encyclopedia Project.
So I force myself to organize everything (results in a huge ****load of text but it works for me )

Manually sorting and linking ftw!

I use my PDA to write down my dreams at night and usually just end up leaving them on there. I keep it on my desk next to my bed ready to write down what I remember as soon as I wake up. It seems to work well and I'm able to password protect them (so that only I can read the dreams, which is safer than just writing them down on paper).

I'd recommend a PDA to anyone, they're fun and can help you get organised, not only with your lucid dreams but with everything (I use the to-do list on mine, the contact list and a lot more).

I've also got articles on lucid dreaming from the internet on it, so I can read them whenever I feel like it.

i just came up with a good idea: but it only works for a few people that may already have this product . i have just recently bought a Creative ZEN Vision:M. its a mp3 player/video player (basically like the video ipod. but it also has a voice recorder (good for recording dreams) AND passwork protectino for any files you want (clears up any problems with someone finding your weird dreams. wow so anyone that has a vision:m can do that! but i have a feeling not many people have the specific exect mp3 player :/ oh well.

oh and patjunfa: Ftw stands for "For the win!" as in: i started taking B6 and now my dream recall is up! B6 FTW!

I wish I could do that, the only problem is that I have family sleeping as well and I don't want to wake them up recording my dreams (and it's not very private if my whole house can hear what i've been dreaming about, lol). Recording myself might be better (I can speak a lot faster than I can write onto my PDA)
