Do mechanical things always malfunction for you?

I know that things like light switches or other mechanical things don't work in dreams for alot of ppl and this can be used as a dreamsign. I notice that guns don't work in my dreams. Well, that was until a few weeks ago when I recalled a dream where I was defending myself from gangsters and I took one of their MP5's away and used it on them. Of the 20 or so dreams I can remember having where i'm in a firefight, I only recall 2 of them where the guns would work well enough to defend myself. This dream ended with me being chased in a car and I drove/slid sideways into a lake and skipped like a flat rock across it. The water was very clear and I saw an airplane from a random old dream. I thought "that's a plane from a dream I had...this must be a dream...that's why i'm being chased..." at that moment my stress of being chased dissolved, I floated down into the water after my car sank and I wondered what i'd like to do since I was lucid. I started swimming to the surface even tho i could breath under water and i woke up kicking my covers

I was wondering if any of you had some dreams where mechanical things worked and others where they didn't.

      hemispheres

Hello JCbrooks (I like your name. It is my initials with my wife's name.

Onr reason mechanical things don't oftren work well is because the hemisphere of your brain that controls mechanical thinking is almost shut down while in a sleep state. So often reading math or shooting may be more difficult than other things.

BUT The one thing I have found out in this case is don't always believe what you hear. When I first started to lucid dream someone had told me that you can't say your name outloud in a lucid dream. At first I could not. But when I dropped the illusion that I couldn't, I could.
And when someone tells you you can't do something in a dream your subconscious makes a note of that. Possibly making it a hurdle.
There are many people who can read and perform mechanical tasks in their Lucid dreams.
I have tried to play chess several times. Although difficult, each time it seems to have more clarity to it.
I guess what I am saying is don't let anyone set any limits for you. Or your OWN mind for that matter!

JCbrooks, the one mechanical thing that NEVER works for me is the telephone. Either I can't get a dial tone or I can't dial the correct number for some reason.

Another thing that sometimes doesn't work correctly is the toilet.

Well, summoning guns is a kind of a "hobby" of mine or at least it was. (too much videogames for me )

Anyways, when I summon guns just for fun or with an intention to hurt someone innocent/not agressive, they most often malfunction. They work *perfectly * against unprovoked assailants (like thugs on the street).

countless times there were problems with guns. even if they shoot, they dont hurt the person. I can spray machine gun bullets but it wont hurt a fly.

After a lot of pounding on the concept and some experimenting, I found the cause: most of the time I dont *focus* on the gun to fire or harm the DC.
Few times I did, I could *kill* the DC without much trouble - one shot and he went limp on the floor resembling a deflated skin of a person.

Thanks for the feedback y'all. This next thing is kinda disturbing, it was a recurrent nightmare I had about 4 times. I dealt with it on the fourth time. Here it is in brief:

I'm on a boardwalk at night, it's well lit. A man walks up to me with a plastic grocery bag and remains silent. He opens the bag and there is what I conclude to be the peices of a small girl he had murdered in the bag. I realize this man is mentally ill and feel compassion for him at the same time as my horror. I think of calling the police but there is no phone and I know if I let him get away he will do it again. I feel this man should die and I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun which I do during my daily routine. I had my Glock in this dream and drew it. With utmost difficulty I pulled the trigger....no function. The killer begins to laugh, knowing I cannot shoot him in this dream. The second and third times I had this dream I became just lucid enough to know I was dreaming but this was one of my first LD's and I didn't become lucid enough to just let go of the nightmare so my Glock failed me both times again. However on the fourth time, It dawned on me that I also carry a lockblade pocketknife in real life so I checked my pocket and sure enough, there was my good old Emerson. I slowly opened it up and held it in front of the laughing child slayer. He assumed that since I couldn't kill him with my gun that I just couldn't kill him in my dream. Well, I can tell you that not having actually killed anyone in real life, I know exactly what it must feel like to slowly push a knife into a person and that it matters not how atrocious the acts are that that person has commited, it is a terrible feeling to kill someone. Knowing he could never kill again brought little relief to my conscience.

Just wanted to point out that bladed weapons may work when guns will not. Just in case anyone cares.

      cheers,
      Elkie

one time I had a dream in which lights would go on and off. One was a lamp that would go on every time someone picked up the telephone, and go off again when hung up. The other was a desk lamp I have in waking life with adjustable brightness. It too worked perfectly. This hasn't happened since, as I've had lucid dreams in which I reality checked with lights, but since that one time, I don't do as many reality checks with lights anymore. I'm more of a digital chronometer type guy.

yes, I have had the same experience with mechanical devices, particularly guns. I suppose what the Higher Mind is trying to emphasize is that Fate, Destiny, God or Whatever is the Final Arbiter of events. We can point and pull the trigger, that is, do our duty... do what a man has to do... but we can not decide whether the gun will really go 'Bang' or not. We can go through all the right motions, but only The Higher Powers can dictate our success or failures.

I noticed that in one dream where I was body guard to this one Young King (Mad as a Hatter, by the way) I had a rifle that worked just fine. We were on a quiet battlefield between two resting dormant Armies. I saw a few enemy soldiers several hundred yards away, exposed to my sight because they were in a feeder trench. They weren't doing anything threatening and so I just kept half an eye on them. But the Young King noticed the glance I tried to hide and thought it was his duty to attack. While standing holding the rifle unsupported he tried to make some 300 yard shots. No one could hit anything like that. It would only make them mad enough to shoot back, so I quickly dropped my rifle down onto the sandbags and and did a quick aim and ... BLAM... BLAM. 2 shots, 2 kills.

Apparently when one is doing one's assigned Duty... Dharma, as the Hindus say, then the guns apparently work.

      i shot Brad Pitt

a little while ago I dreamed i drove by Brad Pitt and shot him. The gun definately worked, but as soon as the bullet hit Brad, I woke up.
I've had dreams where I have been killed, and I wake up at the moment I die, but this was certainly not me...it was Brad Pitt!

yea, there was a thing about that in "exploring the world of lucid dreaming". Some guy said it, and then they tried to study it and nobody else could do it either, because they thought it was not possible. It was the lucid task for august, which i completed, so I know it's possible to do so.

YES. I did not mean to give the impression that it is immpossible!
As I have found, I don't believe anything is NOT possible. How could it be with no bounderies but your mind.
And that is exactly wahtI am refering to. The mind. It is so preconditioned to have boundaries couple with the fact that those areas of the brain do not work naturally with the subsonscious and the left side of the analytical processing side of the brain, just makes it more difficult.

I find lamps and lightswitches never work for me, and if the radio is on I can't turn it off. Also, the breaks on cars don't work!

I find that cars malfunction for me, like if I take my dads car, I always get busted because I cant steer it and end up taking out a street lamp or a driving into someones house. thats in non lucids, in lucids, Ive never used any mechanical or technological stuff. I just do dumb stuff like bounce around in a low gravity environment, which was good at the time, but a waste of lucid time anyway.

Is this true for all people or only people who are left hemisphere dominant?
