Kind of strange. Any theories on why this happens?
Hi,
I had these experiences
When I put my hands/ or any weight on chest or stomach and sleep
in an hour I wake up dreaming of being pressed hard on chest/stomach. I absolutely have no control on it and somebody is pressing it damn hard. To the extent I am frightened and I wake up.
I discovered this after sever recurrences of the same kind of dream when I was 16.
Another Discovery in the same year,
Had these recurrent dreams of floating in the air. It starts with my legs first. They rise in the air and then the whole body. I stay afloat in the rooms and experience this weird uneasy fealing of sitting in a giant wheel at the circus. This is the kind of feeling you experience during a free fall, elevator going down fastly, etc..
After several recurrences I found out that, all this while, I was sleeping with my feet put in the bars at the other end of the bed.
My feet just fit in the bars causing numbness after few minutes.
The physical condition of numbness is manifested as floating in the dreams.
Sad thing is, even if all this is a dream, our body and mind experience the trauma believing its true.
Post your similar experiences if you have some

you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

In my case (for the above two instances)
I believe our mind which runs the show incorporates the current sleeping posture information into dream simulation.
Physical State mapped to manifestations
Weight on Chest ----> Somebody trying to suffocate you/ hitting / pressing you hard
Numbness in Feet ----> A sense of light weighness in legs ---> floatation
Then on I conciously avoid such postures, lest I suffer their affects in dreams.![]()

hmm...odd. never experienced anything like that.
welcome to the board.
Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.

Yeah, I've had hell of time with sleeps and dreams.
Thats how I ended up with this site. I strongly believe
this is uncommon. May be, the extent to which I
experience is a bit odd. It is time I start a dreams-blog
to learn from these experiences.
Also, in a curiosity to learn more about dreams, I got used
to sleep more. Typically 10-11hrs a day and more if I've
no commitments for the day. As a graduate student, this
is a plain suicide. A shocking news for people around.
Any suggestions to control excessive sleep?
Yet another incident,
(In the dream)
Its like somekind of lab and I was sleeping on a table.
Then a doctor comes up with a test-tube in his hand.
Drop by drop the liquid is spilled on my eyes. It was
irritating and I could not do anything about it. I tried
hard to shout like hell.
When it was no more bearable, I opened my eyes.
Only to discover my brother trying to wake me up
with a glass of water in his hand.![]()
Damn it, this time I permitted him to use better tactics
to wake me.I felt sad the moment after, though it was
all in a dream. Still, I suffered mentally as if it all happened.
yah, i've expirianced stuff like that before...one distinct one i can recall is:
in my dream i had been shot in my side, right near the last two ribs
on my side...i actually felt the pain when i woke up
but to my supprise there was some kind of metal bar or something
poking into my side with alot of pressure!
the mind is a curious thing, although it has no tangable, physical construct and is very confusing, it is still amazing...
cheers,
Two weeks without my lover, I am in this boat all alone, Floating down a river named emotion
Will i make it back to shore? Or drift into the unknown?[/b]
I often experience something similar I think...Originally posted by santhosh

During some dreams, I notice that certain parts of my body feel numb -like my feet, legs, or arms/hands. When I look at them (in the dream), the numb parts appear to be blue or dark purple, which indicates to me a lack of circulation in my physical body. What I do then is concentrate on my breathing technique. Using either deep breaths or short quick breaths (short quick ones seem to do the trick of getting my limbs un-numbed and able to move again) Somehow this gets needed oxygen/blood to the areas that are affected and I can then control and move my "dream body." Problem for me is many times this only works temporarily, then I have to do it again (If I do it too much, I start to hyperventilate, so I've found it's important to be aware and focus on what effects this breathing has).
