      Drugs

Hey im extremely new to LD and i have only had one that i can remember in my whole life. I'm just wondering something. I take Zyrtek every night for allergies and a side effect is that it makes you drowsy. I noticed that when i take this, i sleep harder and longer and it is more difficult to wake up. I also have a lot of trouble with dream recall. Does this or any medicine (Minicyclene) have any effect on dream recall or REM sleep? if not then WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? i cant remember my dreams

      plz help me.

If you sleep longer and harder, it probably does affect your dream recall. I usually wake up after long/memorable dreams now, but that comes after some training. Set an alarm for WBTB (wake-back-to-bed) about 6 hrs into sleep or 2hrs before you wake up. Immediately write down your dream if you remember it. If not, lie still for a while and wait until something comes to you. If you don't have any literature about lucid dreaming, I recommend Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge. Read about it for about 30 min and then go back to sleep. It takes some time, but after some conditioning, It will come to you. If you know all of this already, hopefully it will help someone else.

Yeah any kind of depressants...alcohol, allergy meds, sedatives, etc. will definitely decrease your dream recall.

I take sleeping pills or I can't get to sleep' I have no dream recall at all at night and defiantly no LDs. But if I can fall back to sleep in the morning hours like on a Saturday or Sunday then the dreaming and REM periods seem to make up for lost time and that’s when I have a chance to try for LDs.

Your stuck between a rock and a hard spot. I bet if you would have never been prescribed those pills you would sleep fine. Pills are stupid.

You may consider switching to a milder antihistamine. Try an OTC (over the counter) medicine like chlorpheniramine maleate. All antihistamines have the unfortunate side affect of drowsiness but prescription meds will definitely have more of an effect (which is why they are prescription-only).
