How do dream signs really work?

Hello, I am new here and very much still learning. I hope this is the correct board to post this

I understand that you have identify what is important to you in the dream and relate it to something in the real world by asking self, "Am I dreaming?" I know you use dreams signs as a way to do reality checks. But my question is this:

If you have to during the day do reality checks so to develop a habit so it can repeat itself at night then how come other habits I do during the day don't show up in my dreams? What makes reality checks so different?

I have been doing reality checks for two days so I know I have a long way to go since I still don't have the knack for it in my dreams
And as far as dream signs...LOL I have so many weird dreams, I just don't see any patterns

Can anyone help me? Thanks a million!

Dream signs are a way to kind of fine tune your reality checks. When you are doing random reality checks during the day, it is kind of like firing a shotgun blast into the air and hoping that you wing something.

Reality checking on a dream sign is more like taking aim at something.

You asked also about habits you establish during the day beginning to happen when you dream? This also happens quite a bit, and is a reason to keep on doing your reality checks. Hopefully you will catch yourself doing one in a dream and realize you are dreaming.

You might also want to begin practicing some of the induction techniques while you are finding your dreamsign.

Good luck on finding your dream signs.!

Whenever I do a reality check, I simply try to do something that I can't ordinarily do. "No, I can't seem to fly out the window at the moment, so I must be awake." Although it has not seemed to work just yet. :/

I don't have any dream signs that I know of yet, and reality checks don't really work well either (mostly because I ALWAYS forget to do them).

But im starting to become aware of whats happening in my dreams more, and im able to control what happens more now, even when im not aware im Dreaming.

Reality checks are a habit that tends to manifest itself more fully in dreams than other habits you might have because your mind associates it with dreaming.

Anyway, dream signs can be anything. Absolutely anything. Some people assume that it has to be something abnormal, like a purple elephant that reappears in several dreams, but the truth is far to the contrary. My dream sign is jumping. I'll be walking down the street, and all of a sudden I'll feel like jumping or skipping without reason, and I'll realize I'm dreaming. Every once in a while it'll be made simpler because my jumps are 10 feet high or something, but usually it's just like real life, I just remember to check whether I'm dreaming every time I jump, because I usually only jump in dreams. Using this dreamsign, I've had 4 LDs in the last two weeks, and 2 more LDs in the same time period by using another dream sign (listening to music I didn't have on my computer in real life).

when it did happen i kinda got too excited and stopped (because i was just trying to go to bed, wasnt even trying to wild or see anything). but i saw and heard stuff and felt vibrations in no time at all....

I agree. I believe it is not the real act of the reality check. It is that you are becoming more aware of dreaming consciously and leaving a mark of that impression subconsciously that brings it up in your sleep. Can you mix behaviorism with subconsciousness?

Reality checks are a habit that tends to manifest itself more fully in dreams than other habits you might have because your mind associates it with dreaming.

Ah. That makes sense. Linking it more consciously to the subconsious world. Thanks!

And thanks Tsen for your examples of dream signs. However, I think I am more like Kastro187420. I am still trying to find one

      Thanks guys!!!

Re: How do dream signs really work?

i am learning too. so far i know that when you do a reality check in real life dont just be like am i dreaming, no! u have to really think about it.. like prove to yourself that its not possible.. for me some stuff i do during the day does show up in my dreams and things i have habits of i continue at night. i've only been doing RC's for two days aswell so i know i still need to get in the habbit too. And i can also relate to the fact i dont have any dream signs either.. like nothing too out of the ordinary ever happens in my dreams and even when it does, i hardly ever dream about it again..
sorry thats not really a help, but i like to think we are on the same level!

good things to do when you RC are:

-look at a digital clock, look away, and check for differences
-try to put your finger through your hand
*one that I developed myself and works really well for me, is:*
Pick up your phone or flip open your cell and try to dial a number. if the buttons don't move (ie. 7 where the w is supposed to be) and you find that you are able to operate it properly, chances are you are not dreaming. this one works really well for me, in my dreams I often try to operate the phone but can never do it right because the numbers keep shifting on the key pad, this has led to DILD's on occassion. I'm trying to make it into my dream sign, since I don't have one really.
