ok, i've been having similar problems to you lately.
Last night i decided i wanted to get back into dreaming, and lucid dreaming in particular. To jog my memory, i told myself before i went to sleep that i'd remember what i'd dreamed about the night before, and i also stuck a note on the side of my bedside table saying 'what were you dreaming about?' and it seemed to work.
The dream itself was vague, but during the process of writing it down i remembered a lot more.
Some of it is actually motivation, and some of it is down to practise. Your brain needs to get into the habit of remembering dreams when you wake up.
