      Thumbs up

You know how some kid's moms (like mine, when I was younger) don't let them eat certain things before bed because it'll "give you bad dreams"? Or have you ever found that you're more likely to have dreams if you eat chocolate or peanut butter or a certain food before you go to sleep?

I realized that it might not be so much that you are having a dream (in that eating the food induces dreaming, good or bad) as it might be that the food helps you remember that you dreamed in the first place. It's quite possible that other times one thinks they didn't dream, they actually did but just didn't remember it at all. If this is so, does it sound possible that certain foods improve dream recall?

Sorry if this is old news/obvious/wacked out...

This is technically old news, but it hasn't really been brought up for a long time... so it's no problem, anyways.

I know there was an "experiment" with this in the research forum, but honestly, it can't be regarded as very scientific as there are too many other variables that are dictating the results. However, it is more clear as to what chemicals/minerals/vitamins induce certain types of sleeping patterns. For example, b6. See o'nus's "physiology of sleep" tutorial for a good list of foods containing dream-related substances. You can also search the internet for vitamins/chemicals that induce dream states and see what foods contain that. But to be honest, many foods contain an ingredient that induces better recall, etc., but it really contains a negligible amount, so it doesn't have any real effect other than placebo.

I think you are partually unearthing the old B6 in food thing, but otherwise, I like it

when you get down to it, some foods (like bananas) contain dream-enhancing substances, so you do have something

Yeah, the only reason I brought it up is that I remember my dreams so rarely that improving dream recall is going to take me ages just because I have to wait so long to actually get a dream that I can remember and write down to condition myself. I figured if I could push the state in a nonharmful way, I might be able to speed up the process a little.
