      Interrupting Sleep

Sorry all, I know there's resources on this topic around here but I can't remember where they are and my lazy ass can't be bothered to scavenge for it.

I've heard that we naturally wake up in between sleep cycles, though most of us are so drowsy we don't have memory of it upon awakening. And that its possible to become conscious at these times in order to recall and record dreams, induce WILDs, whathaveyou. I'd love to learn this technique to improve recall, preferably without using an alarm clock throughout the night, but if it helps hone the technique I don't mind using one for a while.

Anyone have experiences/methods of this that they wish to share? I'm open to anything. Or if this has been discussed at length already point me in that direction.

      Thanks everyone.

I think it helps to be very faithful with your dream journal and WANT to record as many dreams as possible. I currently affirm before I go to sleep, "I awaken from my dreams, remember them, and make a few notes." I typically awaken once or twice during the night and make some dream notes, and indeed that is an opportunity to practice LD induction methods, so I'm glad I do. There are definitely times I wake a bit and remember a dream, but can't get myself to make a note. Lately I've been training myself to make notes in the dark without opening my eyes, which helps. I have several pads and pencils around so there's always one within reach. Patricia Garfield says something about this in her excellent book, Creative Dreaming. She says she wakes up after every REM period and she said something about how she got there; I can't remember exactly what, though it had to do with keeping a dream journal. It might be worth a read.

Thanks for the response, yeah I should really work on intention and auto-suggestion more. That's one facet of lucid dreaming I never really gave a proper chance.

I use a mantra, I only wake up 1-2 times though :/... Look in the FILDing tutorial (in archives) it has an interesting method.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...
