      Question regarding mantra.

I'm really honestly trying hard to get to the stage where I can have one lucid dream by recalling as many dreams as I can. Yes, there were times I could recall dreams every night but then all of a sudden, that ability is gone. Now I'm trying every way to recall dreams every night again even by waking up in the middle of night about after 4 hours of a sleep with alarm set on. Still there are times when I don't remember anything at all or barely small details of a dream.

As for mantra, I tried saying something like "I will remember the dream when I wake up" before I sleep, well, it isn't really progressing for me.

What I like to ask is can you just repeat the mantra in your mind and remember the dream when you wake up or say it out?

Another question I would like to ask I find it quite hard to get to sleep, will meditation help resolving the problem?
And if I had wheels, I'd be a wagon.

I have only tried the " i will rememember my dream.." thingie a couple of nights now but It helps me just to think it but as it seems to be diffrent for all people when it comes to dreaming... i say experiment with both

I tried the both method few times but didn't work too good. I guess I need to be focussed a little more.

I usually say "I will vividly remember my dreams" a few times as I feel myself going to sleep. I also use "I will realize I am dreaming" the first one works pretty good but the second not so much. In the mornings if I am having trouble with recall I will repeat "I will vividly remember my dreams" and it gets my mind in remembering mode so i can usually squeeze out a few details.

What's worked for me for a while now is not saying 'I will remember my dreams' or 'I will lucid dream'....

I used to go to sleep every night, holding an absolute still position, and repeating this: 1, I am dreaming, 2 I will remember my dreams, 3 I am dreaming, 4 I will remember my dreams, etc...

However, I found that once I dropped the 'I will remember my dreams' my dream recall improved immensely and it became much easier for me to have lucid dreams.

I think this is due to the fact that we build up expectations for ourselves when we tell ourselves that we will remember our dreams and/or we will have a lucid dream.
