      Recall improves when fatigued?

I was burning the midnight oil last night; I was very tired and planning out my night's LD attempts and writing my daily diary etc. I noticed within the space of a few minutes some memories of dreams started popping into my head.

I read somewhere that if you do some studying under water and then, at a later time, try to recall the information, your recall is actually better if you try to recall the information while under water - as opposed to a normal desk environment.

So this makes me think that, being tired helps your brain access the dream memories because the dreams were created while you were tired.

I'll try this again tonight and see what happens. When I am tired I will do some free association.

I can remember a teacher I had discussing this very thing. She passed out some chewing gum to each student and we reviewed for an upcoming test. Then she passed out gum during the test as well. The idea was, if you study/review while chewing gum, and then take the test while chewing gum, it will trigger your memory and you will have a higher score. It was a long time ago and I can't remember the results. This sounds interesting though.

It worked for two nights and the third night it didn't happen, though I didn't try too hard.

One thing that worked when thinking about a past dream was to try to connect the dream's location to a real life location - that location that inspired the dream location, if you like - and then take a mental walk round the real life location. That triggered a couple more memories.

Will keep trying each night and let you know how it goes.

      Talking

Would this work for "artificial" fatigue? I just took some medicine for my cold and it hit me hard and I am EXTREMELY TIRED

Hey, as far as your brain is concerned, it can't tell the difference between natural and drug-induced fatigue.
