      Recalling Dreams in the morning

i try to remember my dreams when i wake up, [obviously].
but i only remember when i wake up on my own.
like if my dad calls to wake me up for school, i almost always will forget to think of what i was dreaming about.
and most of the time with an alarm clock i wont remember to think about what i was dreamintg about.
well actually my problems not really that i dont remember to think about what i dreamt, its more that when something interupts my thoughts, then i totally forgot what my dream was.

is there anyway to wake up on your own? [excluding sleeping-in]

or try to wake up at the same time of the day (morning). If your alarm rings at the same time everyday you should get used to it and then wake up by yourself at that time without being woken up by that alarm.

(well maybe it doesn't work for everyone.)

I have noticed that if you get woken up by a phone call and talk like 5 mins it totally kills all recall and there's nothing you can do. The first minutes after waking up are vital, and you have to spend those minutes recalling. It must be the first thing of the day.

so yea i tried the water thing and it worked. i remembered 4 dreams, also after going back to sleep i had an LD.
now i know a new way to remember dreams really well and when i have a good chance of having an LD. [i only had 2 high-level LD's so far, both of which were when id wake up in the middle ofthe night/early morning and went back to sleep]

      so thanks!

Yeah.that works for sure. I really had to take a pee all night long, but was to lazy to get up. But I did have some pretty good DR. Just becouse you wake up every few minutes/half-hours. Only the dreams were very fragmented, unconnected. But I have that more often lately.

And about like when there are other people in the room: That kills dream recall for me aswell. I think becouse it's harder to focus on recalling dreams or something.

      HelloTolin.

A way to stop yourself from forgetting your dreams from the use of an alarm clock which my friend has been using for a while now is to desensitize yourself from the alarm clock. Basically, you can tell yourself to wake up slowly from an alarm clock rather than suddenly. It’s a lot of work but well worth it in the end.

What you do is just before going to bed, say to yourself “I will slowly wake from sleeping when my alarm clock sounds, I will not suddenly wake.”

My friend tells me that it’s better to say it if you wake up in the middle of the night.

      Good luck.

i have the same problem as well, if i get woken up by a phone call or an alarm, i never remember anything

so, what i prefer is to have two alarm clocks set up. One, is really, really quiet, that turns on jazz radio station. The other one, goes of 30 minutes later with loud beeps (just as backup). It's actually just one unit, with dual alarms. Very quiet noises don't tend to startle me, so i can stay in bed and walk though my dream in my head before waking up.

Also, if you can, consided a PC alarm clock. There's a plugin for winamp that can start playing music, and graudualy increase the sound.

I think it is the thoughts in the morning, that keep me away from recalling dreams.
As soon as I start to notice that I am conscious after the alarm clock went off, I start to think "What time is it? Did I oversleep? What do I have to do today? etc."
After the first 30 seconds after becoming conscious one will forget the dreams. So those thoughts are the reason for not remembering my dreams. It is like I am so stressed already when I wake up, that even if I try to remember, I still won't, because I ruined the first 30 seconds.
The Jazz music thing seems like a good suggestion

I read something about a zen alarm clock that wakes you up gradually and very smoothly. This way you wouldn't have to wake up to quickly turn off those damn beeping clocks. They are pretty expensive but I've heard they are worth it. You should check www.now-zen.com. I haven't tried them myself but dunno, may be they are worth it.

Anyway, I will try to download the plugin for winamp as PlayWithFire said, maybe it will help, we'll see.
