"Ugh.... I will remember it, I will write it down later

How many of you have said that and totaly forgotten your dream?

I know I've said it like a million times... But I think I have a simple solution

      Voice recorders.

You can pick them up an office supply store, the little ones that use the micro tapes, or even one of the swanky digital ones. They can range from 20 to like 100 bux depending if you go tape or digital they are small so you can put them next to your bed in easy reach, and you dont have to write anything down you dont need to turn on the lights... just hit record and speak your dream.

If you have a spouce this may be tricky just have to be quiet when you do it.
But if your single its perfect.

Later on you can review what ylou said and then put it down in your dream journal. You could even erase the tape and use it again if you like, or keep the tapes for your records..

Only the most vivid/lucid ones stick for me, most of em just go by the wayside.
Though my memory is shot to shit anyways, and im only 23!.. well 24 soon I think.

That's funny... I'm already doing that. Plus... a voice recorder is also good for "gonzo" journalism, my friend.

      Great idea.

Even when I write things down, my handwriting is often completely crappy when I awake in the middle of the night (anyone else noticing this ??? I've had a lot of trouble reading it afterwards).

But, on the other hand, I really HATE listening to my own voice

WOW! last night/this morning i had three dreams (not lucid) and i was too lazy to write them down, so i just thought about them over and over while getting ready for the day, and having thought about them so much i can remember them easily now! maybe this can be a substitute for dream journals...

What I do to remember my dreams is probably along the same lines as the most of you, except maybe one thing.

I do have two "Dream Journals." I keep one sketchbook at my bedside during the night, and when I wake up and remember the dream, I slop over the side of my bed, and chicken scratch key notes of my dream down.

Now if I think I'm too tired and my writing will be completely il-legible, or if I'm too tired, I'll grab something off my desk and toss it on the ground. That's usually good enough for me to remember because then that item laying in the middle of the room for reasons you'd typicall question in the morning, will signify that dream, which will then help you remember.

That's just one additional method out of many.. and probably not one I suggest primarily abiding by..

      Hope I was enlightening,

I had four or five vivid dreams last night that I could remember well when I woke up, but they're already mostly gone except for the minor details.

      For me:

      1) I can't write fast or legibly enough in the middle of the night to be able to record my dreams well on a piece of paper.

      2) I really don't feel like getting up and waiting for my computer to boot up so I can type them in the middle of the night.

      3) I hate the sound of my own voice. I'm sure it's fine for other people, but I don't want to hear it.

I haven't been recording my dreams for a while. If I start on that again, it'll probably be back to 2).

I used a voice recorder... it works well. I hate the sound of my voice, too, but I'm also a writer/actor/speaker so after a few days... I really didn't care anymore. It's not like anyone else will be listening to my stupid bumbling voice recorded messages as I slowly re-gain consciousness in the morning. Plus... it's helpful for a writer when they have that random thought/poem/idea that just has to be expressed. It's also rather humorous to carry it around when your drunk.

Well I just write in a notebook. Plus I really love drawing, and for me, writing has a similar appeal. But yeah, SecondAttention, I do the same thing with my notebook..if I have something I need to get down on paper I try to keep it with me to write ditties. Of course, sometimes my hands get a little abused if I have no paper...I'll draw all over my palms

Oh...last night I tried an aspirin, a vitaminB and a glass of milk. I didn't become lucid, but when I first woke up around 7:26AM I remembered this extremely vivid and long dream (it took up like 2 pages); I went to sleep again and woke up about 8:30AM (I didn't go to school by the way) and remembered two dreams! I think this was the first time I've ever rememberd more than one dream per each time I woke up...I usually only remember the dream I wake up during/immediately after. Hopefully progress continues!

EDIT: ...I forgot something else... True, I didn't become lucid, but I have a feeling I was extremely close to achieving a WILD. I usually couple WILD attempts with chakra attempts, since I think focusing on my chakra is another subtle way of staying concsious. Anyway, I was focusing on my chakra and like always, I achieved a state of relaxation in which my eyes seem to comfortably fall into that position...only last night, my eyelids then proceeded to bat and flutter rapidly. I was able to keep my eyes closed, but I could definitely tell they were twitching uncontrollably. The strange thing is, despite being alarming (much like sleep paralysis and hypnogogic images) I didn't suddenly awake. After about a minute of that, my body got this "disabled" feeling...it wasn't the full-fledged sleep paralysis that's so characteristic, but it was a very strange sort of stillness...not paralysis, because I didn't try to move. I wanted to stay still because doing so gave a strangely good feeling. I kept fading in and out of both of these states...and eventually I was completely back to normal... ALMOST!

If you use the voice recorder idea, it may also work well to hook it up to your computer and run some voice dictation software...much better than transcribing it IF your recorder has a decent quality/little static.

Sounds kind of cool. Is there recording software out there that will detect when you start talking and record direct to the sound card on the computer?
If so, you could just start talking in the middle of the night and let it pick up on it.

Oh yeah, welcome 'NobodyImportant', good to have you on board!

I'm not sure about just using the computer, but you can probably set the software up that way.

I use a voice activated tape recorder and connect it to the computer when I'm not too busy and play it back through the sound card. I started using the recorder because I kept waking up, picking up my pen, and falling back asleep. I wrote a whole page in my dreams only to wake up and discover the page blank.

Sounds like something I would do. I have been reading books before and fell asleep without realizing I had done so. The story line often takes a strange twist when that happens.
