Yeah, but we actually won independence from Britain in 1783, didn't we?

No. America claimed its independence from the English crown July 4th, 1776. The Declaration of Independence was signed, and the deal was done.

I think the RV war started in 1775, but ended somewhere in 1783? Didn't it...or did it end sooner?

I wish I could come up with something optimistic and constructive but I opt out to pronounce[size=18] "HAPPY 4th JULY AMERICA"
"I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me to see me looking back at you".

AHHH, wait, I've got it! I see where you're coming from now...

I was Googling for some empircal evidence, when I stumbled across this blog.

Basically, you're dead on -- from the British POV. However, as far as we Americans are concerned, it was 1776. We frankly don't give a flying fuck what the other nations choose to put in their textbooks.

To answer your question, no, the Revolutionary War only lasted a year, from 1775 to 1776, as evidenced here.

Now will you please stop killing the occasion with over-analysis, for the love of god?

w00t!! Happy fourth of July! Nothing beats those neighborhood fireworks shows!

I used to go to this amazing fireworks show, but it got shut down a couple years ago after a firework fell on some spectator....

I think it's weird how into it you American people get... quite strange, but of course if it's fun then by all means do it

Lol I don't even know when Australia day is... I don't think any Australians do... when it does come all it means is another day to get shitfaced anyways haha. I think it's funny that we celebrate Melbourne Cup day (a horse race) more than we celebrate Australia day...

So what do you guys usually do for America day?? I gather there's some sort of fireworks right?

Yeah, fireworks, beer, big dinners...same thing we do for all major holidays, except everything is decorated with the colors red, white, and blue.

The people around my house start lighting fireworks, like, 2 days in advance. Somehow, I think the cops only care if it's on the fourth...

Lazy coppers! I'm trying to get some sleep here!
The law is really to protect the idiots that sit on firecrackers, or put 30 in a bag and make a 2 foot fuse.

If people are this stupid, maybe they shouldn't be walking around the streets?

All I see is a better gene pool.
