Say I wanted to start a fire in the woods, in a small clearing. All I have, for the purpose of this hypothetical scenario, is a pair of glasses and a three-day-old newspaper I brought along to read. What are the steps I should take to get a fire started and keep it going through the cold, cold night?

For the sake of simplicity, forget about the Rule of Threes.

Gather tinder, hold the glasses near it, use the Sun(if it's out) to focus a small beam or dot and hold it still. Breath on it gently until the fire starts, slowly add more dry things(preferably wood and leaves) to make it larger. Put stones around the perimeter and try to set sticks up around it to prevent wind.

Not half bad for a city boy, but let's let Oddy answer...

Basically what he said, however, if there are any paperbark birch trees around, shred the bark up really fine and add it when you have a small smoldering pile. That stuff has a bunch of volatile chemicals in it, and will burn off of a spark even when wet. (Although its kind of rare if you're not in an area with sandy ground.) Also, the stones aren't that necessary. Just scrape any flammable material about 2 feet away from the fire. Sometimes (although not in my neck of the woods) searching for suitable rocks can take longer than getting the damn fire started.

And, glasses don't work too well if they're for nearsighted people. They spread light instead of focus it.

Now, I don't remember clear back until I was three. However, I can say with certainty that I was fapping by 11.

Depends on how cynical I feel at the time. I'd probably give it away. I'd much rather ask the terrorists a hypothetical question within this hypothetical universe and make their heads asplode, then take control and land the plane after hypothetically getting my pilot's license.
