      Book Trade

just posting this out of curiosity, to see if anyone would even be interested...

I was just looking at all my books, and I realized that once I read them, they end up sitting on a shelf collecting dust until I decide to read them again, usually years later. I'm a voracious reader, recently anyway. I have a goal set to read 5 books a month (60/yr).

there are a LOT of books I'd like to get, BUT, I don't have a lot of money, so I can't afford to buy but one here and there. AND, I have this thing with libraries...uh...getting books back on time. so even though I could get them for free, I always always end up racking up late fees.

so I was thinking, why not trade books with people online? it should only cost a few dollars for shipping (in the US anyway), I could read them at my own pace, not have to worry about returning them on time or late fees or anything.

here are the books I could find that I could trade (w links to amazon page):

Homosexuality and Civilization by Louis Crompton (link)

Comfortably Numb: How Psychiatry Is Medicating a Nation by Charles Barber (link)

Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe

Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams by Sylvia Plath (link)

Self-Made Man: One Woman's Year Disguised as a Man by Nora Vincent (link)

      1984 by George Orwell

      Oscar Wilde Collected Works

      The Republic
      by Plato

      The Illiad by Homer

Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge (link)

As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl by John Colapinto (link)

The Satanic Scriptures by Peter H. Gilmore (link)

Electroboy: A Memoir of Mania by Andy Behrman (link)

The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition (link)

The Time Machine and The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells

Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler (link)

I have maybe 10-15 more books (maybe more), I just need to gather them up and list them...but I'm not going to list them if no one is interested.there are so many I'd like to read, I have not compiled a list yet but I will. so, is anyone willing to participate...? and, of course you could trade with each other, not just me. come on, post your lists, let's do some book swapping ;D

I'd definitely be interested in something like this. I don't have as much time as I'd like to read anymore, but as a kid I used to go through twenty books in a week. By my definition, 60 a year is nowhere near 'voracious.'

I can still put away 3-4 in a week, as obviously the size of the books I read have somewhat increased since my 20 per week days, but quite often the library doesn't have the book I want. Myself, I've got bookshelves upon bookshelves full of books, a good percentage I'd be willing to trade. Mostly sci-fi and fantasy, with a sprinkling of classics and thrillers.

I know good and well there are more than just us two interested in this. So get off your arses and post, folks!

I have a lot of books I'd be willing to trade, but it may take me a little while to go through everything. I'll try to post a short list later tonight.

How is trading books by mail going to be any less costly/more convenient than buying them? Granted if you go to a big-shot bookstore like Barnes and Noble or whatever, things might get pricey... But there are lots of really good independent used books stores around, or even used books on amazon.

I also don't see how returning a book to the library is so difficult.

I guess it is a good way to save some shelf space though!

Enders Game, Enders Shadow, and Speaker for the Dead. I'm missing Shadow of the Hegemon, which I would love to have~
LoTR trilogy, and The Hobbit, all 12 Cirque du Freak, Dune. =D
Pearls of Luthra, Salamanstradon, Legend of Luke, all from the Redwall series.
The Indespensible, Essential, and Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes' sets.

      Just a bunch of classics I'm always willing to part with. Ask for links if you want to see, or PM me with address if you want me to send them :}

I might just have to jump on those Calvin and Hobbes collections, no-Name. I'll PM you in a bit.
