Thread: Do Most Straight A Students Study?

i don't study very thouroughly, and i get a B average
they way my teachers are, if you do the hw you don't need to study to do fine.
probably need to study for straight A's though.

update:i took 1 page of notes(which was also my studying) for the entire chapter and got a 74/78 on my history test.

That's a good point. If you do the HW you will probably do fine.

Come to think of it, kids who think I study are the kids who don't do HW and wonder why they are failing.

Ehhhh... I get straight A's for my history papers. But, I'm at university, so maybe you're asking about high school students? My papers are graded by essays rather than exams, because of the level. But meh. I voted, I study for some classes. That's most accurate.

I guess I was aiming for High School grades.

i dont get straight a's but usually have all a's except for a b is some honors classes. i don't study much except for pre-calculus honors and american history a bit, but thats it. the rest comes natural and from doing homework and paying attention in class and not daydreaming!

My friends are all study freaks and they all harrass me about studying. But I dont. I just learn the concept then I dont have to do the boring repetion to memorize the formula. Espessially in math.

Well there are a few things to say about this thread. The choices aren't precise enough. People are going to define studying "some" differently.

Second the survey population isn't statistically significant, a lot of the people on this forum aren't in high school, and if they were, might not be straight A students.

Finally, the answer to this question is very dependent on which school you are attending. The difference in the difficulty level of courses at one high school and another can be as large as the difference in difficulty of a high school class and a college class.

If you're serious about finding out the answer to your question try making the topic at a forum about studying or tutoring for high school subjects.

This is not suppose to be statistically significant. It does not matter if they are in high school at the current time. If they are not straight A students they should not afffect the results.

I understand that difficulty levels are going to be different, but it does not matter that much. I'm in advanced classes myself, which may be easier or harder than other high school classes.

Maybe after seeing how it goes here I will take it to a forum about studying or tutoring for high school subjects (never thought about that).

I'm a straight A student (except for Gym hmmm lol) and I don't study too much. I'll only study before tests on subjects I'm not great on, like French and Science. Things like Math and Geography I don't bother because I know everything anyways. For exams, I'll study for every subject, depending on how well I know them. For example French and Science I'll study for 5x as much as Math.

Most of my marks come from paying attention in class and double checking my work

I am lazy too which is why "I will study later" but never do.

got mostly A's and B's without studying or doing ANY homework. those classes with lower grades were because of refusing to do schoolwork outside of school.

in grade 12 i convinced both my history and english teachers to nullify missing homework marks if i maintained an A average on tests and essays.

though i always did poorly in math, squeaking by in the low 50 percentile...

I study the day before/day of(depending what hour the class is) a test in the classes that require memorization or thing that arent easy to remember. Even when I do study, in retrospect, its usually pretty half assed, only rarely do I REALLY need to study.I find that if I pay attention in class and I understand the concept, I really have no need to study. The only times I study really hard are in English when I didn't read the book and I read all the Sparknotes like crazy the night before.

I don't know if I'm a straight A student or not. I'm meant to be top my school or something (and really that isn't much), and I don't really study, but I think the reason I'm probably so good (oh yeah, I'm so good&#33 is because I:

A) Enjoy what I'm learning 90% of the time
B) Pay attention

You can't learn if you don't pay attention. Because you're not making any effort to memorise and you are not a black box/tape recorder.

I barely ever study. the only time I will is for my GCSEs . in fact today I took a test in science, finished it before everyone else, got the highest mark and all I ever do is listen to my iPod

I got all A's in high school, and graduated vet school with a 3.9 GPA.

I didn't study AT ALL in high school.

I studied a lot more in vet school, but not everyday. Mostly I would rewrite all my notes, and then study them off and on. I found my study technique to be rewriting and rewriting notes (especially since spelling was also part of the grade).

Doing spider diagrams with pictures is supposed to help your memory as it uses both sides of your brain.

Also using different memory techniques is supposed to help as well.

I think thats a good point. I have a good memory (helps if I care about the subject, such as I don't like history so its harder to remember) and I usually pay attention.

Some classes don't talk about some things that are on the test and require you to read,
ugh, my biology class for example, so in that case my memory wont help.
