Dream Views Guitar Wars - Week 5: Cast Your Votes!!!

Ok. We know you've ALL been just beside yourselves with anticipation (

) waiting for us to get this week's Guitar Wars up and running. Well THE WAIT IS OVER!! IT'S TIME TO OPEN THE POLLS!!

We had some pretty steep competition, this week, so let's try to have an amazing voter turnout!! Yes, this means YOU!!

Here is the overview of the assignment:

Gilmour Blues Task

With the provided backing track, improvise a slow moving yet passionate and thoughtful solo. It must be slow and true to the genre. It also MUST be an improvisation, no planned solos in this one please. Take it slowly, maybe include a few short licks, some slow bends. Just be creative and take the track slowly, constant fast soloing is not permitted in this task. The backing track is a Gilmour blues which is slow and gives you lots of opportunity to express each and every note, so use it wisely to create something nice.

It is the Steinberger, jacked straight into the E-Mu with a rectifier type amp emulation. I kicked in a phase shifter in the last cycle just to keep it interesting.

Guitar is an Epihone Les Paul run through a Zoom505II pedal and an old ART MultiVerb Alpha panel.

It wasn't until I picked up my guitar again, [the day after], that I noticed it had somehow been knocked slightly out of tune. It had been like that since before I uploaded my track, and I realized that that was why the parts in the beginning, when I was trying to harmonize two strings at once, sounded like shit.

I wish I would have caught it earlier, though, but oh well.

This was probably one of the first times where I went up and down the neck all on my own to find the scale. I've never actually done that before, so pat on the back for me.

My personal criticisms are the following.

- Too much repetition
- Too many mistakes
- Out of tune guitar
- I tried to get too adventurous at times which resulted in mistakes.
- Damn repetition again, i really wish i could have another take at this since i could do a much better one which explores more of the fretboard, i did try to but i wanted to make it fluid and smooth.
- I think i went a bit too fast in places.

There are more, but hopefully i didn't do too bad, but its good to be back, i love the feel of this competition because it gives people the chance to explore new horizons and improve.

Oh, and this is on my crappy Encore Strat-Replica, so sorry for the crap quality overall.

Sorry i did not post this thread like i said O. Free time for me has been a rarity throughout this week.

Wow, i got a vote, i didn't think mine was even worthy, that had to be my suckiest take.

Oh, btw, i am near completion of one of my pieces of music coursework if anyone wants to hear it. Its a remake of "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" by "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in a reggae style, the lyrics are not down but the rest is. May need some opinions.

Nah, i think mines bad, i'd rather vote for the most deserving entry, mine is not deserving since i did make a mockery in many places, as pointed out in my break down of it all.

Exactly. The underlying point is that we are the contestants, not the voters. We don't really get votes.

Voting for ourselves only locks it because (not implying that anyone would cheat, but..) it makes sure none of us tips the vote aside from what's been casted by the people listening.

I finally, after much deliberation and consternation, settled on CB's. Lucid's was a close second, with the rest extremely close behind.

I decided on CB's because I think it stood out from the rest as slightly more different, as did Lucid's. Everybody else, awesome work. I wish I could play like that.

Thanks buddy. I tried to keep it true to the mood of the backing, and I think I succeeded in doing that.
