Very interesting - I read that a couple months back and I've thought about it ever since. On one hand it sounds like the old theory: "Well if it's not true then no big deal, but if it IS true you're screwed! So you may as well believe in it!" But at the same time, it's true that we tend to filter out a lot of the real world with drugs and use them to pacify problems. I wouldn't agree entirely that drugs are completely useless though - psilocybin mushrooms were the very thing which got me started on the whole spirituality thing. It gave me a crash course on emotion, which really stuck with me. It was almost like a reminder. I don't use mush anymore though. I got what I needed, and now I want to explore the beauty of the Universe without crutches. Pot's still on the agenda, but only rarely, and only for kicks, like a dumbass movie
Once again, truly insightful read, thank you for bringing it to the forum
edit: I don't quite understand the thing about loud noise though. He likens wearing earplugs at a concert to taking anesthetic and jumping into boiling water, but it doesn't quite make sense...Any idea about this?
