That is sooo great Yume!!
I remember when my son got his bracesoff.. we were both smiling like idiots!
Wearing metal for a couple of years is a real pain but the end result is a beautiful smile for the rest of your life! Congrats!!
Today around 8:30 AM Pacific time the braces of mine were taken off. After 2 years of torment and brushing about 6 times a day I can finally go back to a normal schedule and eat anything I want.(not like I wasn't doing it anyway) I feel a big change from two years ago in how my bite feels. Since I have not finished growing though I am going to have to wait to finish. I am going to need jaw surgery. My jaw is still getting bigger. Think if I grow any more.
When I called my girlfriend today and told her the first thing she said was "Thank God!"I didn't think she liked the braces too much. I now get to do things that I never could before without making others physically uncomfortable. Such a great day for me.
Has anyone else had to go through the pain of braces or any other long term surgeries?

I have to get braces soon... most of my friends are getting them taken off already, yet I havent even got them on. Im thinking about invis-align, yet i heard you have to have them on for a long schlong time, and it doesnt work as well? i dunno im still contimplating.
Must be a relief having wires and brackets removed after two mind-molding years. And making out to celebrate... suite

I only had braces for a year, but boy did they suck. I also had a space between my two front teeth a la Letterman, so I had to have a little metal bar put on the back of them to close the gap. It was quite humiliating and painful.
I got my braces put on right before Halloween that year too! I ate a box of Milkduds anyway -- it was worth the hours I spent cleaning all the caramel out.
After a couple of weeks, the bar fell off, but it had done it's job, so they didn't bother putting it back on. The braces came off too. They gave me a retainer -- the top was metal with a little red plate, and the bottom was like those Invisalign things.
I wore the retainer for a while, but eventually tapered off and never wore it again. The bottom part got torn and was making my gums and lip bleed anyway...
Oh, and back in May, I had my wisdom teeth pulled. My cheeks were the size of cocconuts for days, and the hurt like hell once the novacaine wore off.

I'm supposed to get braces, but I said no. I'm betting on the fashion in 20 years as being "having the most scariest looking teeth ever".

Wait a few years and you'll probably be able to get some sort of allignment treament. A few hundred dollars and about 6 visits, and you'll be set. But then there's the cancer side effects. Oh well.

i had a total of 16 hours of surgery last year.
most of this was for my face. to fix hemifacial microsomia amongst other things (google that for images and be appropriately horrified). i also had a bit of cosmetic stuff, like a nose job and brow lift.
i was more scared about being alone in a foreign country , than i was about the surgery. actually i was more scared about NOT getting the surgery. the thought of continuing to look like a freak for the rest of my life, was just not tolerable. its changed my life a whole lot. people really do judge based on appearance.
my surgery was the easiest thing in the world, just lie down and let them jab me, and woke up xx hours later, drugged to the gills. spent another few days driifting on morphine or demerol (yummy!).
worst thing was being bored to tears in the hospital with no one to talk to. easy to sink into deep depression (i was near suicidal), especially given the rebound from all the drugs. there was not much pain, i only went through 8 or so percocets after my big 10 hour op.
the soft food diet gets REALLY monotonous though.
don't worry i say - just get surgery if you need it, its no biggie.
I had braces on my top and bottom teeth for over 2 years. Getting them tightened every month was horrible. I would get a dull ache for at least 2 days. My braces are now off and i've got nice straight teeth. I've still got semi-permanent retainers on the back of my teeth though. I hardly ever notice that they're there.![]()
