Google Earth Findings

What cool locations have you found in Google Earth? I haven't found any good one's yet, because I just discovered the program. If you find anything good, post the coordinates or give a link to the .kmz file.

i tried to find area 51 but it was blocked off... go figure..

wait i think it was maps.google.com with sattelite... i dunno this looks more advanced

I found the exact spot wher eI live!!

It's at 48, 36' 42.27 N 93, 23' 20.90 W

Crazy, because if there were pictures of the buildings, I'd be able to see my house.

I also discovered that if you look at the most northern point, it's not far from Greenland. But I could swear that there's Canada, Greenland, and another continent there, covered in snow/ice. I dunno, could just be Greenland.

Ohh I've been wanting this but you need broadband right? If i could gett it it would be awesome to map out our farm... oh and the nearest town to us is a pub and a store, I don't kno whether it wou show up though...

So what's the program like people? Can u guys give a bit of an outline about it?

Anyone know if pictures are updated in this program... or could the picture i see of my place be maybe 3 years old?

yeah they're updated but obviously

A) more in american areas
B) very slowly all around - i mean that's alot of world you're photographing there

its an interactive program that combines the powerful asian google search tool with imagery from the google maps service, and 3-d topography to make it all 3d... press down your middle button or scroll wheel and move the moust and it gets all 3d... they should use this on news stations that would be so awesome.

i used it at my aunts house.. she has like the fastest internet in california so I got near-real-time interaction. Crap thing is im back home now with 56k

Yea this is pretty interesting, soon we all have the our coordinates in our profiles

I read that the pictures can be up to 3 years old but i'm sure that will change soon.
NASA also has a similar program that i heard should be better, it's called World Wind.

and so i managed to load it up on a dialup connection.. took a long time, but heres teh result:

my humble yet SAFE town (gardens of the world in the center, finished years ago, still in construction in the picture)

zoom out

zoom out some more

a little bit more

a wee bit more im not irish

and it is now possible to trace pOOp's location. bleh

This is TOO cool.. but a little scary to think that anyone who has your address and internet access can just zoom in on your neighborhood
and then your house.

It was too low res to see my current house, However, I did find where I used to live. Seems the new owners cut down a lot of the trees

wow really i have some satalite photos taken about a year ago that show the entire thing incuding the longest run way in the world

or just copy paste... its pretty awesome. a SR-71 Blackbird (in flight?) with a buddyplane drone thing

hard to guess altitude since the other slightly-airborne aircraft just south of it taking off has a shadow like really far away, and its not one big picture its a bunch of them

im just wondering what that glowing shield thing is
