      I'm a lot more surprised at your husband's 718 with 18 late payments, than your sudden drop in FICO.

      Remember a credit score is used to "predict" your risk level to lenders. When you had a recent late payment, the system doesn't know if it is a one-time accident, an error, or the start of a new pattern - meaning you are in finance trouble. So a sharp decline is not all that uncommon (not sure about the 200-point drop, which depends on many factors). Your score should rise quickly after a few months if you continue to make regular payments on time.
