ok so i just ate a few jalapeños on my pizza and they were quite warm

then i got bored and looked up more peppers on line and found the scale

and if i get a little sweat with a handfull of jalaps then what would happen if i ate somthing from the top of the scale

Habeneros and pepper flowers or whatever. I didn't even need to look at the scale for that, I just know.

Habeneros, or Scotch Bonnets I think are extremely painful, nuclear hot, and are actually tasty in the few seconds before your tastebuds are slaughtered like pigs.

Habeneros are good. Once you get past the heat, they add an interesting, fruity flavor to food.

This Mexican at work, he'll take bights of Jalepenos with his burger. It's amazing. However, he won't eat these hot metwursts (pretty much only found in CInci) that just me and this other guy loves. They ARE hot, but not as hot as a Jalepeno.

One time I made a jalepno pizza at work and was eating a slice on the freeway. A seed got stuck in my nose hole inside my mouth. My nasal passage was unbearable and my eyes were forced closed. I thought I was going to die that night.

How on earth did you manage to get a seed in nostril whilst eating? You must have been ravenous to be eating it so fast to get one up your nose

Actually capsaicin, more commonly known as the main ingredient of pepper spray, is the hottest type of pepper.

No, capsaicin isn't a pepper. Its the ingredient in all peppers that make them seem hot to the tastebuds to drive away animals eating the plant. Capsaicin is a chemical. It also burns eyes and other sensitive regions, which is why no sane person would ever wipe their eyes after cutting a habenero, and is why pepper spray is effective.

I'm also a food nerd.

Capsaicin is just the oil of hot peppers. You can buy it at specialty markets and, literally, a drop or two will spice up a pot.

Yeah, a friend of mine had a really hot bottle of pepper sauce that I guess had a really high amount of Capsaicin. Like, a drop would leave you begging for water.

Anyways, he and some people he knew were having a competition to see how much of the sauce they could handle. This one guy didn't think it would be that bad and took a small swig...

... And was sent to the hospital

I saw on a TV show once where some host took a tiny pepper of some sort and put it into a giant cauldron of boiling water. Then contestants who thought they could handle it took a drink of the water and fell to the ground and started jerking around.

Some guy put a tiny red pepper (dont know what it was) in my shirt when I was in hawaii, he said it was for good luck. It ended up in my bra and burned my nipple. I took it out! fuck good luck from a hot ass little red pepper. Oh yeah I was drunk!

I love the mex. restaurants that make the REAL mex. food....and the ones that have excellent salsa are even better...spicy food es beuno food.....so spicy it clears out your system, and even so hot that the next morning your ass is on fire...ouch.

Buffalo Wild Wings blazing wings cured me of a cold. It was amazing, but painful...

Mexican food is good, although I'm not sure I eat 'real' mexican food that often

But I'm a big fan of Chipotle and Taco Bell

lol wow, the hottest pepper is only 1/2 as hot as the weakest pepper spray

don't I believe it.....hell when I was in culinary school, we were roasting jalapenos (which are no where NEAR as hot as some of those others, of course roasting hot peppers brings out and concentrates the oils which contain the capsaicin), and I made the mistake of not wearing gloves

then later when I had to take out my lenses, EVEN though I had washed my hands several times, it burned the crap out of my eyes, and the contact lenses even soaked up the capsaicin-oils because they burned everytime I tried putting them back in, no matter how many times I rinsed them, so that pair was rendered useless

and that was just from jalapenos!

Hell yeah about Jalapenos. I've seeded them mid day at work before and went throughout my day washing my hands regularly. I got home later that night, sat down and rubbed my eyes. I could still feel the heat in my eyes. It wasn't the worst I've experienced, but that oil lasts a LONG time. Don't even get my started about working with peppers and going to the bathroom.

By the way, authentic Indian restaurants will have the hottest food. There is one near me that lets you pick a number 1-10 on how hot you want it. I asked what a particular lady that works there eats. The waiter said, "Uhhh, I'd say about 18." Hah.

lol bobvila, i can only imagine. Next time I'm working with peppers, I'll use the woods instead.

So yesterday and the day before I was all stuffed up, then I ate a whole bunch of salsa and I felt great! I guess whatever was in that salsa was too toxic for any cold viruses to survive in. yum yum!
