      I need a job

Anyone else having lots of trouble finding a job? I'd do anything for 10 bucks an hour! It's very hard to find a job around here, not a lot of places are hiring...

Yeah, it is hard to get a job these days. I got lucky when I moved back to Ontario. Doesn't provide 40 hours a week solid, but it pays cash after I'm done the job.

Places that hire unskilled laborers get a lot of applicants. To narrow down the pool, a lot of places won't even consider you unless you call the place back after turning in your application. It also helps if you ask if the hiring manager is there to talk to when you turn it in. Give him/her a smiling face to go with your application.

If you're willing to settle (and many times you have to), there's always work to be had. The trick is to make yourself stand out from the other applicants. Show initiative and have a good attitude. That's about all they can ask for in a shelf stocker/waiter/fry cook/dishwasher/cashier/whatever anyway.

Most cities have temp worker services. You show up in the morning, companies that need help call in, and it's first come first serve for the work. The jobs are crap, the pay is abysmal, but you get paid at the end of the day. And often the companies will hire you on full time if you do a good job.

They have names like "Job Ready" or "Task force". Not really sure how you'd go about finding a local one or what they're called.

Those places are great if you're traveling.
