Psychology is that weird curry place, isn't it?

I am studying psychology...

Bet I was the last person you wanted to hear that response from, huh?

Anyway I have been studying psych for about a year, if you need any help with research or anything don't hesitate to contact me. Are you studying psychology too, or is it for a class or assignment?

I've been studying some psychology lately...I'm not sure what areas you're interested in but I've got good familiarity with most aspects of the field. I've got a term paper coming up soon that I'll be working on, so I'll be doing some research and spending a reasonable amount of time looking up various bits of relevant data, etc. I'd be glad to talk to you about it if you're interested.

I'm studying and have studied this area quite intently. You can easily find me on msn or yahoo to chat and what not.

I suggest reading books by:
- Sigmund Freud (For theories on common life psychological issues, hypnotism, sexual analysis, and dreaming!)
- Jung (similar to Freud..)
- Piaget (Developmental psychology, significantly child psychology)
- Charles Darwin (Evolution of man, etc.)
- Dr. A. A. Brill (mostly translations of Freud, can you tell I like Freud?)

Those are the pretty popular ones there. That's a lot of reading right there to, lol.

To find more material on psychology, try simply looking at University and College websites for lectures and what not, it's usually easy to find.

For any specific lecture on a psychological topic, just post it, we'll all find something.

In fact, I ask that anyone with any psychololigcal resources post some up. Here are some I just found:

McMaster University (Hamilton, ON) - Decent, but could use more detail. Good for introductions

Neuroskills.com - Very good material for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI), repairing neurons, counselling TBI patients, etc. If you already know your neuroscience, you'll like it. Otherwise, might be a little perplexing.

University of Washington Introduction to Neuroscience - Speaks for itself really. Very good. I still look it over at times.

Phobia List - Not really any detail here whatsoever except the names of phobias and what the fear is of.

Well there you are, those are some decent links right there. Good introductory material. The McMaster lectures gives an online quiz as well.

That traumatic brain injury is a great link, because we're studying alot about the role of psychology, and the methods of which are needed to be used after the person gets out of the hospital.

How long have you been studying it?

I am currently finishing my first year in college, so I am relatively new, although I have learned more than I would have thought in this short time. I think it is a great thing to study, although there is a lot of reading(I really mean a lot of reading when I say that, for those that might be interested). I chose it because I think it is one of the only choices that actually helps you in your development as a person, and is not only good for a career.

Anyway, if anyone here need anything I could recommend a couple books and I also have a couple papers I have written that might be of some use(to use as a starting point, not a final draft, lazy bastards j/k). It's cool to have at least a couple of people studying psych here and being interested in LD's.

In the movie script I am currently developing I am trying to use some of the concept that I have learned about dreams(psychoanalysis) vs. what we know about LD's. That is what I think will make the movie interesting, if I can actually develop it based on some truths known in psychology, in apply them to our world of dream control....

Yes, I'd like to see what resources anyone has for psychology or any other related topics (psychoanalysis, psychopathology, psycho(x), etc. etc.) I'm interested in broadening my resources and doing a little re-hashing and learn something new, like always.

Ahh yes.. so please, post any psychology resources.

I completely share your agony...there is alot...

I am studying a 1st year university course broken down into 2 years, with some more stuff to do than a first year...but i will only fill in 1 year, because im moving back to the states...then i will get a minor/or major if i feel like it in psych.

Has anyone here read Freud's conferences on dreams? They can be found in Volume 15 of his complete works. It is very enlightening, and it explains a lot. I am currently trying to figure where LD fits in, and I think I might have some truths about it....}

Most of the info I have on psychology are books I have had to read for class, but as I said I have a couple papers as well. I have very few online links, although I will go through my stuff and see what I have....

I'm going to take pysch next year. I look forward to it, I always liked pysch.

It is a load of rubbish, but i respect him.
He is also a PRODUCT OF HIS TIME, therefore his studies are limitied to Victorian Times, and things were a little different then. But he is still considered the 'Father of Psychology'.

Which theory on which subject..?

i think he has a good basis for looking at why humans act the way they do. -- i don't know, a lot of his theory i agree with, but at the same time i think he's way off. indecision sucks.

I think he is truly a great great man(although my teachers have taught me to believe so). Don't only try to think about what he said exactly, but consider that fe really laid the foundations for so much more that was to come later on. I have studied a lot of what he said, and most of it make a hell of a lot of sense, as much now as it did in his time.

The only problem I have with him is that his lectures and writings are written in a very boring manner, not really user friendly. Of course it is not meant to be that way, in that time he was struggling to convince people of the veracity of his theories, and not to teach students in a easy way to comprehend....

Just his overall 'impression' of things
All of the theories...and how he came about recording them.

Well Freud... I haven't really study his theories but from what i have red i think that he drew many conclusion based on his self and not on the human psychology as a whole. Offcourse he gave many usefull ideas, that helped future research in some subjects. I see his theories as a very good analysis of his self...

Well, he was his greatest patient, but I do believe that he wasn't looking for traits that proved to be true on his self, but he also made sure that they were true about other people...

If they were only based on himself then they wouldn't have had any validity at all, or the acceptance that they have even today...

(I am not talking about all of his theories, but his work in general)

Some of his theories make alot of sense.
Currently, we are brushing over MORALITY, and his theory, amoung others obviously, and that is complete crap, about how women have little or no morality, because they have penis envy...
But how he said that GUILT is the worst feeling a person can have (negatively), i agree with this though.
He is a great man, i respect him for his work, and the way he got tons of psychologists to react to him (even if it was negatively, such as the behaviorists, as his theories are mostly biologically based)

What's the best Freud work to read just out of intrest? I also have an euro project over the guy due later this month so I'm trying to figure out his theories.

The best book to get is the Basic Writings of Freud translated by Dr. A. A. Brill which contains the majority of his writing and theories. By Library Giant.

I really like Volume 15 of his colective works. It is divided in two, the second part is about dreams....

The whole volume's point is to prove the importance of the unconscious. Very interesting subject.

see, freud makes psycholology really easy! i can psychoanalyze everyone in here simultaneously, cause you're all the same:

you all are sexual frustrated, and want to have sex with your mother...the women in here want to be men too
