      Quiting marijuana

Well ive desided this morning after careful thought that I will quit smoking cannabis. Why im posting this here is because its kinda a mind game to try and hammer it into my head that I WILL quit and will write down every day that I don't smoke...If ...It alot more hard then it seems. This being because about 90% of my friends smoke on a daily basis plus my girlfriend smokes cannabis also. Ive been smoking for 2 years every day one or more times... Alot of my days are centered on scoring which is a huge waste of time. The one that that is bothering me about quiting is that if I do I might lose some of my friends...But yeah.....If anyone has any tips please feel free to tell me them.

      WHY I SMOKE CANNABIS?
      To pass time
      For creativeness
      To help relax myself
To help fit in with others

      WHY IM QUITING:
Problems with attention, concentration and memory.
Poor educational achievement and difficulties in learning.
Respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis.
Taking to much money and time

I congratulate you! I've not gone through it, but I can understand how hard it is to quit smoking anything, but just never forget the reasons why you're quitting. Personally, I'd try to find someone who'll hold you accountable and encourage you to stick with it. Don't try to do it alone. It's much harder that way. Also, try finding something that'll keep your mind off of smoking. Sports, books, card games, movies, hanging out with friends, etc.

I hope that was helpful. I am glad you decided to quit. Most people just end up going on worse things = vicious cycle.

I've quit for months at a time, and it can be a little difficult at times. The most difficult part is not really the physical dependance, but really the social factors (your friends will no doubt be high for hours at a time and you'll be quite bored). This should not mean that you should avoid them, though. If you can't hang out with any of your friends while they're smoking herb and you're not, you have a problem. Some people just can't NOT smoke when their friends are. Be strong. Don't tell yourself "i'll just smoke this once", because that's bullshit.

Yeah, my personal new year's revolution was to smoke more...

Good job on your decision. I've done that also this new year, my plan is to quit smoking for long periods at a time, and when I do smoke, smoke no more than once or (AT MOST) twice a month. Since new years I've only smoked once with a real good friend of mine before I went away for college, and another time I took one bong hit. Its been almost 2 weeks since that bong hit.

Try to stick to not smoking for at least a week first. After that first week it should be a lot easier to stay away from the ganja... especially after you start having some incredible dream recalls. If your friends are smoking, you gotta say no and stay strong, it becomes a lot easier to not smoke after you tell them you're giving it a break. If you end up smoking with them, its a lot harder to not smoke afterwards, because you'll just get back into the same cycle.

      Good luck...

I smoked Herb for about 10 years chronically. Also did a lot of other drugs. When I gave up it was about doing other things to get pleasure. Like I started skate boarding.

At the start I sometimes found it hard to hang with my friends but only folded a few times and only with herb. I've been clean from the other drugs for 6 years this month and it’s all good. I still hang with heaps of friends that still do drugs and it is sweet. If I’m feeling tempted or vulnerable I usually bail from the situation and all my friends understand why.

I think once you make your decision to stop you just do it. I tried on other occasions to stop drugs and for whatever reason I always went back. If you want to do it you can. Anyone can give up anything in my opinion. Man I smoked cigs for 13 or so years and I never thought I’d give those up but haven't even had a puff since the day I had my last cig about 2 years ago. For me the key was don't even have that one smoke etc as I know my personality and it had to be that way for me. Not all people are that way some people can control it. Sometimes if I still do feel like getting high I do something for myself to release that energy. My latest thing is going for bmx rides. Good way to get rid of energy and relax.

As for fitting in with others, I'm sure if they are good friends they will accept your changes. Why would they not? Essentially you are the same high or not......

      Peace Sensi.

freemind, good luck. I don't think marijuana is all that physically addicting, but is more of an emotional and mental addiction that can occur. mind over matter.

If you smoke mixed joints or smoke ciggs/rollies as well its hard cause the nicotine is v.addictive. I've been nicotine free for... actually I forgoten how long over two years though maybe three. I used the Alan Carr book "the easy way to give up smoking" it stop me an everyonw else I know from smoking nicotine, it really broke the whole drugs thing for me, in fact any dependance I had. I never liked giving those giant tabbacco companies my money and I never liked the effect my buying other drugs had on parts of the world I was not connected with in a negative way.

I can now pick and choose, although I never use tabbaco and never bother to buy anything myself, sometimes I'll indulge at a special party every now and again and remeber the days it was my entire life.

I don't know about you, but I eat-sleep-and-breath my friends. I'm not ever around them for a "short duration" anytime, I think that my personal choices are mine, and that I shouldn't dictate their behavoir. If they want to smoke, they are welcome to. I believe this goes beyond drugs. I'm Vegan, but if someone around me chooses to eat meat or dairy, that's their opinion and most likely I'm not going to even say anything.

Yeah I too think it is personal choice. Hanging with friends and not having restrictions is what it should be about. It’s good when people can accept each persons differences, that what’s makes us all interesting, our uniqueness. What is right for some may not be right for others. All my friends are sweet with me not taking drugs, maybe at the start they would still offer it to me but not now at all. They respect my choices and I respect theirs.

Yeah with the vegan thing I’ve either been vegan or vegetarian for maybe eight years and it too is my choice. What other people do is up to them.

dream-scape - I hear what your saying tho, friendship is a two way street, if it is too hard for you to hang with your mates when they are smoking it would be nice if they could make allowances for you.......

      Peace Sensi.

All things in moderation. Marijuana isn't terrible if you don't use it every day(especially weekdays). Getting high two or three times a month on the weekends isn't really harmful at all, and would be quite enjoyable. The key is in your case, where it's around you constantly, is to quit outright for a month or two before trying it again in moderation(besides, it'll break down your tolerance ).

in about 24 hours from now it will have been a month since my last bong hit. If I don't count that one hit then its been almost 5 weeks!

For next weekend though, I'm planning a "hang out" session with a very good friend of mine from chattanooga. I won't smoke until then because I want to have some tolerance 0 at the time. After that I plan on smoking no more than twice a month, but I'll see how it goes.

      quitting marijuana

after reading a comment about MJ and LD not mixing very well, and after reading all of you guys, im seriously questioning my smoking habits. i dont smoke nearly as much as i did about two years ago, but i do enjoy a twist every now and again. its in spurts. i am a whole lot clearer when i havent puffed for about a month. my problem is if i got it, i smoke it. i dont have it much, but nonetheless, i have it now.

imma think about this more when i run out.

and by the way, you have my support 100%

I'll vouch for 'quitting weed gives you killer dream recall' I smoke once every week or so now, used to smoke at least every day, Back then (2 months now) I'd remember maybe 1 dream a night. Now I remember anywhere from 5-10, I can wake up and clearly remember 2 or 3 seperate dreams. But actually one the day I smoke I still have good recall, if you smoke too much though it definetly hampers your recall.

      Anyway congrats on quitting 8)
