Thread: RIP Syd Barrett

That's really unfortunate. He did amazing work in Floyd's early days.

My only question is why did they begin the article by mentioning his LSD habit in the sixties?

yeah, i'm not sure that's really fair. although that is probably what many people think of when they think of him.

yes, but he was also a very talented individual!

So very sad. He died at 60, far too young I think.
He founded one of the greatest band in history, and influenced the way we see music forever.

I'm a Pink Floyd fan, and I dont really mind at all. I mean, he was the guy that started it all.. But the greatest music they made was without him The Syd Barrett era wasn't my Era really, I preferred the Gilmour/Waters/Masons/Wright era (Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, etc).

Edit: Although it was too bad because I loved his solo-album.

Ok, but you can't deny his influence on their later sound. He laid the pattern down in the early days that the band kept alive. If he was never in the band, I wonder what your favorite records would have sounded like.

Has anyone heard the story that while Floyd was recording Wish You Were Here, Barrett wandered into the studio after being MIA for ten years? Just showing up after ten years during a song that is about him. I just heard that a few days ago.

It's true... it sounded awful. He showed up, overweight and with his entire head shaved, including his eyebrows. Supposedly he was trying to brush his teeth by holding the brush to his mouth and jumping up and down... sounded like a wreck. They didn't realize it was Syd for a while.
