Well I don't care so much about the hero as much as the villain. My pet peeve is when the villain decides to preach about "why" he is evil. Of course what pisses me off even more is when he preaches about his "lack" of why lol.
Anyone have any Superhero Movie Pet Peeves?
It seems that therecent falloutdecades of movies all seem to follow exactly the same superhero movie patterns.
are we just going to see the same formulas played out again & again?

Well my main pet peeve is that the final fight is usually very short. I'd like a 20 minute battle or something. It's usually like 10 (if that).
Plus more fights, there's usually alot of morals in hero films lately, which is good if done right! Spiderman 2, although a great film, spent way too much time on the morals.
Well I guess I'd like to see the superhero not always be indestructible too, maybe a little bit of a slow down and major injuries ect. Although a few films have shown the weaker side of the hero lately.

wo things make a superhero movie for me: vilains and... well, that's villains too... Plot, I guess. The Villain has to have a good scheme for the hero to go after them, then the 20-minute fight scene after the hero finds out the whos, wheres, possibly the hows. The whys are typically unnecessary, and the whens are always withing 5 minutes of the heroe's arrival. An it has to be a good villain. Venom is cool. Ras al Ghul is cool (I like how they made him the new Batman;s archenemy/former mentor). Haven;t seen Dark Knight, but Heath Ledger's Joker sounds cool. THe new Doc Oc? not so much. The new original Green Goblin? again, not so much, but at least he retains enough coolness for the movie to be okay, if not good.
Dr. Doom=rival scientist formed in the same incident as the Fantastic 4? BOGUS.

I've gotta say I'm pretty happy with recent superhero flicks.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

The new Joker was awesome.
I was not at all disappointed with The Dark Knight. It met all my expectations...and MOAR.
Of course, I may be biased, considering my opinion is that Batman is the only cool hero. It's probably the fact that he's the most human out of all the superheroes - he doesn't have any real superpowers that make him practically invincible, like Superman. Batman just relies on his fighting ability, his equipment, and his wit. Oh, and his money. His mountains of money.

Mmmm, mountains of money.
I'm annoyed by all the damsels in distress. I wish the women would start acting more like guys, to be honest.
ugh. the spider man movies annoyed the hell out of me.they made peter parker into a flaming homo.don't get me wrong but i think they could have gotten someone much better to play the part.not some namby pamby crying momma's boy.sorry they just made those movies way too emotional and centered around spiderman's emotional issues.oh and mary jane screamed way too much.

Kinda depends on the context, really...I mean if it's a woman who could normally handle herself in a situation, but just gets overpowered, then it's okay. But if the entire persona of the woman is "Oooh, heeeelp me! Heeeelp me! I only exist to be reeeescued!", then I can see where you're coming from.

Super hero movies try too hard to go "deep" in one movie. The reason comic books can go "deep" is because they have enough time to have fun and seriousness. I would rather watch a funny superhero movie than a serious one. Spiderman three was good for at least 20 minutes of the hilariousness that ensued over Peter becoming the "Dark" version of himself.
If this were the batman movie it would be $$

Yeah that's exactly what I mean.
There are situations in which men get overpowered that are totally believable. But it seems to me like the situations in which the women get overpowered are really exaggerated and overly dainty.
I loved the Dark Knight to pieces, but here's a scene that comes to my head when I think about this: (spoiler alert) The Joker was threatening Rachel and she was in her little dress all vulnerable and crap. And then she plucked up enough courage to kick him or something, and he was like "Oooh got a little fight in you." UGH. I HATE that. Could you imagine a man in Rachel's situation? It would be laughable. But somehow it's okay to portray women like that.
Achievements:
No offense, but one of my major pet peeves is actually this point of view.
I think that people should be accepting of the fact that there are some characters who are just that way. Think about Rachel's character. She's not necessarily a fighter. It comes down to more of just portraying her as who she is, than amping her up to be some tough, Michelle Rodriguez kind of kick-ass chick. Women shouldn't take too much offense to it. There are plenty of movies where women are hard-asses, but I don't think they should always be portrayed as such. But, of course, I'm not a woman, so I can't pretend that I see the offense from an insider's point of view. I thought her reactions were pretty realistic, for the type of character that she was.
Let's not forget, her taking out the Scarecrow in Batman Begins was one of the best parts of the entire movie.

^ Oh my GOD!I love you but seriously just go to a proper theater and see the Dark Knight and then judge.
O, yeah I guess you're right. Actually, I don't like those extremely kick-ass chicks either. I just want someone who's in the middle. Like, if every woman could be like the Mayor in Dark Knight.I just mean.. a regular person, not dainty or on the other end of the extreme. And it's not just Rachel that gets me annoyed, it's the fact that this kind of thing has existed for such a long time.
Achievements:
There's nothing "false educational" about it. It's applying realism to fiction. To each his own, of course, but (as an artist who's main focus is fantasy and the like) it's always annoying when people refuse to grant such concepts the respect they deserve. It's like so many people think Superheroes are nothing but comedy, animation is nothing but entertainment for children, video games are just for kids and/or people with no grip on reality, etc. Just really gets under my skin I suppose. It's all subjective, though.
I believe that's the underlying factor, but I can understand. I'm just usually quick to express when I don't feel movies (or whatever media) are necessarily trying to take that direction, and it just seems that the viewer is interpreting it as such. Many minorities see racism in movies where I just don't see it. Same concept, really. When you are passionately opposed to something, you usually end up seeing it all over the place, even in places it may not be. Not to say that you're wrong, at all, only that it's all up to interpretation.
I actually think that Rachel was pretty solid in both movies. If I remember correctly, the only time she ever really tried to escape danger was in BB, when she was in the basement of Arkham, and Dr. Crane showed her the room where they were making the toxin. But hell, I would have probably hauled ass out of there, myself. Lol. In all other cases, she always stood her ground. She attacked Batman with her tazer, pulled a pistol on one of the escaped convicts, was a pretty hard-ass District Attorney, and took out the Scarecrow with her tazer (all in "Begins"). She also stood up to the Joker in The Dark Knight, and was really brave in facing the predicament her and Harvey were both in. With as much as she annoyed me for different reasons, in both movies, I don't think she was your typical, helpless damsel in distress, in either one.

I'm not saying superheroes should be nothing but comedy...but they certainly shouldn't focus on one scope of the entire human experience. From what I saw I didn't see even one light hearted thing in the movie. The closest I came to smiling was when the joker was talking bull shit...Maybe there were some pleasantries among the characters when they were speaking as normal citizens...
Just like if a movie was all comedy it would be valueless, the same goes for only serious aspects.
Achievements:
Fair enough, I suppose. A movie can be too serious (though I found enough levity in the Joker to carry me through the rest of the movie's lack of it). But I definitely can't agree with you when you say you'd rather watch something like Batman and Robin over a movie like The Dark Knight. Personally, I'd like to see a movie that takes itself somewhat seriously and thoroughly (hopefully with a lot of action), and might compromise some comedy for realism, than something that is basically a perversion-turned-parody (such as Batman and Robin). I mean, I love comedy, but there is a time and place for everything. That's just me, though.

I see what you mean about interpreting things differently because you're passionate about a subject. I've definitely been annoyed at times in situations where I've felt that people were just looking for things that aren't there.
For the record I don't remember a thing about Rachel from the previous movie. Batman wasn't very exciting for me before this one came out!
The word "minority" reminded me of something. I took some Womens Studies class, and they kept referring to women as a "minority," even though they make up more than half of the world's population. How backward is that!![]()

Well...kinda...
The Dark Knight showed that Superhero movies aren't failing.
However, I dislike when a film can't figure out what the fuck it is. A comedy, or a serious action film.
Hancock suffered from this, horribly.
