If you're talking about the texting girl video then yes, I agree. Teenagers are obsessed with texting for some reason. It probably spending most of your time texting shows people that you have are popular or something. Once my sister got a phone plan with unlimited texting, when I was driving, instead of calling me, she texted me and said "Call me", so I call her back and said "what the fuck are doing?" Cuz instead of calling me straight, she just went and texted and I had to open my phone and read "Call me", while I was driving, I was outrage. Teenagers today are fucking stupid.
I'm beginning to wonder if cell phones are more of a curse than a blessing. They give us the opportunity to communicate whenever wherever with anyone on the face of the Earth who has a cell phone. Wherever I go, I am bound by my cell phone to the world. I am required to carry it because I must pick it up. If I don't, people will wonder where I am and I might find myself in a bind.

Well if that isn't the understatement of the century...I know it's not nice to generalize, as there are a lot of bright teens out there today, but shit. I mean, there used to be a time when a majority of teens were at least capable of telling you where certain key countries could be located on a world map. But now technology has these little fucknuts so distracted that their intellect can only be considered marginal at best. You would think that it'd be pretty obvious - "Oh, maybe I'm failing all my classes because I'm texting and not paying any attention to my lectures." But no. They are truly and genuinely confused as to why they fail, going so far as to accuse their teachers of "hating" them.
It kind of makes me glad that in my last year of high school, they implemented a system in which teachers were allowed to take the kids' phones away and keep them until their parents came in and asked for them back. Serves the little shitheads right.

Come on now, saying teenagers today are less intelligent than teenagers of the past is just plain insulting. Especially from people who aren't experts and don't have decades upon decades of experience dealing with lots of teenagers from various generations.

I just know that each generation is getting lazier by the minute.. why the hell do you think there are so many diet plans and work out plans.. because kid's don't wanna do shit with their lives. They'd rather sit around on their xbox 360's or Ps3's, smoke weed, and expect life to be handed to them... Man I cant wait til Life kicks the shit out of them hahaha OMG.. i still wanna slap them

Well, the fact that most of the foods you see on store shelves are very unhealthy and the fact that these foods are marketed toward children combined with the fact that many of our parents are too stupid to draw the line as the ones who buy food for the household just might be contributing factors to the health issues.
Kids don't want to do shit with their lives? That's a pretty bold statement.

Spoiler for You've probably heard this:
Seriously people, stop whining. Your views on teenagers today might be accurate, but it doesn't make them valid. The world changes and people adapt to it in whatever way works. Slackers will be slackers throughout history, and will likely keep slacking unless it's actually going to kill them. Texting is just a new medium for them to slack off in.
You have to question the relevance of things like this. Will not knowing where Ireland is actually affect your life in any substantial way? One can just look it up on the internet, or at the library.Originally Posted by Lezen

This is not to say I don't hate a substantial portion of my classmates for being lazy bastards. I just don't think you can blame it on today's society; they'd be lazy bastards whenever.

However, if you eat a few apples, or some peanut butter and celery or the likes, you're much more likely to feel energized, light, and good to go.
Along with this, I don't think we should necessarily stereotype the youth of today.... Whoever said that they all just want to laze around playing video games and smoking weed is very wrong, and especially if you try to compare it to the past.... You think the kids of the 60's or 70's didn't want to sit around smoking weed, or drinking beer? That's something inherent to people in general, not any specific generation. Also, the fact is, is I don't see anything to back that initial statement anyway. I don't see kids as getting lazier. I know plenty of active people nowadays, and I know tons of people who go to the gym every other day and get buff. Sure, there are a lot of overweight and lazy kids, but there always were. Maybe it's more predominant in other parts of the world or something, but I know personally that the people around my area are generally highly motivated (whether academically or motivated in the real world sense) and look forward to doing something with the rest of their lives. Just about everyone I've talked has high hopes and a plan set out for their futures. Most of the people I know are so excited about university/college because they can't wait to get out in the world and put their plans into action to get where they're going. I think too often now we see a few sterling examples of lazy kids and unmotivated teens on TV and we assume that that represents an entire generation. It doesn't.
Personally, I'm actually very excited for university, and I can't wait until I get through it and can start pursuing my dreams wherever they lead me. I have so many plans for the future, who knows how many of them will actually work out, but I'm still very excited and very motivated to get started on them.
No, teenagers are not fucking stupid, your sister is fucking stupid. Don't stereotype an entire generation on your sisters actions. As well as this, I could stereotype you as stupid for your poor English skills, but I don't assume that you are a complete idiot just because you aren't magnificent at English. That would be a dick move. Just because some people like to text, does not mean they are "fucking stupid".Cuz instead of calling me straight, she just went and texted and I had to open my phone and read "Call me", while I was driving, I was outrage. Teenagers today are fucking stupid.
That's because geography used to be taught more extensively, when it was considered more important. Now it doesn't matter, because you can look up a map on your phone, or your computer, or even in your car in some cases. Because I don't know the exact area of Kazakhstan on a map does not mean I'm an idiot. It means that I was never taught that specific thing. I know I always sucked at geography, and I also know that this is probably in part because we never focused on it in school whatsoever. I remember having geography in grade 9, and the only thing we really ever did with it was memorize the location of all the provinces in Canada. Does that make me a smarter person? Not at all. That information is easily obtainable any fucking where at all, and wasting my time memorizing the location and borders of each province in the end won't prove shit, and won't be worth shit. What's more important, and what should be being focused on in schools nowadays, is not necessarily the material, but the analysis of the material. Being an International Baccalaureate student, I've learned that just because you learn something in school does not mean it's right. It doesn't even mean it's important. IB taught me to analyze what I learn, every book you read, even straight from the IB or IB endorsed companies, you're encouraged to analyze them, find bias in them, dissect them under a microscope, and cross reference them with as many other documents as you can to try and come to the most complete and logical truth you can find. THAT is a skill that actually has some importance, that is something that can determine whether or not someone is an idiot, and that is much more important and rewarding than being able to point out Georgia on a map. That's something that you can take with you in life, that can actually serve some purpose.I mean, there used to be a time when a majority of teens were at least capable of telling you where certain key countries could be located on a world map.
Furthermore, who are these kids that are confused by why they're failing? Everyone I knew who failed knew why they failed. They would tell me straight out; "Yeah, I never paid attention in class," or "Yeah, I just didn't care, I didn't do the work, I did too many drugs, I didn't sleep enough..." etc. If someone claims to not know why they're failing, they're clearly claiming that as an excuse to make themselves seem like less of an idiot. And sometimes, teachers genuinely do hate their students. I've had teachers admit that to me before, that they mark with a bias. One teacher told me straight up, that how a person presents themselves will have a big effect on how they're marked. A person who gives off that "straight A" vibe will generally get straight A's, whether or not they deserve it. She told me that if a student who usually gets D's brought in a paper deserving of an A, they may get a C on it if they were lucky, because that's all part of the marking bias. The teacher already expects failure from the person, so they're going to be searching for the flaws. There are many other factors that also weigh in on a teachers marking as well, such as when the paper is marked, how many papers the teacher has already marked, etc. Believe it or not, if you ask an honest teacher, they will tell you that these things do have a big effect.
Moreover, I don't even really see how this is relevant. The girl in the video liked to text a lot, so what? I text a lot too. I counted one day and I had texted over 250 times in like a 12 hour span. It has nothing to do with my intelligence, and I don't see why I would need to be slapped.... What's the difference if she texts a couple hundred times a day, or if she's talking on the phone for a few hours a day? I don't really see the problem here.

Thank you.
I text if I don't have much to say, that way they don't go on and on about there day( most girls do this >.<) And I'm forced to listen. If I text them, say 'What time does the movie start friday' If i don't text back when they start telling me about how there girlfriend got pissed at them, I can say the battery died.
But I don't text that fucking much.
I probably send and receive 500 texts a month.
Ah. A supporter of teen ignorance, it seems. (Oh, and the last time I checked, Ireland wasn't what I consider a "key" country. Read my post...I'm pretty sure I used the term "key countries".)
You know, I used to have the same complaint about math. It was like "Hey, why should I have to know this? I'm not going to have to apply this anywhere in life because I'm never gonna be a rocket scientist." But then I woke up and realized that there is always an application somewhere out there for the things we learn in school, even if we don't realize it at first. The things we think are oh so "pointless" are, while not necessary for everyday survival, helpful to have. There actually have been times where I have needed algebra or geometry to solve a certain problem that does, in fact, pertain to my life outside of school.
Also, you can't depend on the internet for everything. Your assertion that the internet is such a simple solution to everyone's ignorance-related problems further proves my point that people - especially teens - are becoming too damn dependent on technology and thereby are being rendered more and more unable to solve their own damn problems in life. School exists for a reason.

School doesn't teach rational thinking or logic. It teaches fact memorization and social conformity (even if it is conforming to something that is "rebelling" - as long as it's the cool thing to do.)
Lezen, Iseadragon was referring purely to geography. You really don't need to have the positions of every country or even key countries pounded into your skull. It is possible that you could live your entire life perfectly well not needing the knowledge of any country's position aside from your own. It wouldn't affect you. If the need arises, go look at a globe or google maps.

When adults where teens, there parents where saying the same thing with the modern appliances, games, and drugs(weed was popular around 60s... It was legal in the the early 1900s...)
Ad when we're parents we be complaining about them playing their Apple virtual reality stations and their Salvia Divinorium.

Who the hell sends 8000 texts a month. Those kids deserve to have their hands broken. I mean go outside and spend some time with your family like every kid should. They don't need to strengthen their hands if they just called the person... but wait if you call the person you'll yet tennis elbowThere are so many kids who text in class when they should be paying attention. This country is going to die faster if these kids don't learn and benefit society. I myself am a kid, I get quite a few texts but I don't respond to them right away, I don't want to be reached every damn second of my life.
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

Thanks, BE.
Lezen, you're right in a way. I was probably too hasty in my argument. What I meant was that it's silly to expect teenagers today to have the same intelligences as needed in the past. The theory and why of things - like how to do algebra, as you said - is still important for people to learn to apply. How to solve your own problems is important to know. But rote facts, like the names of 50 states; why do we need to memorise them now? It's simpler and more practical to look them up when we need them.
I suppose the distinction needs to be made between things that will allow you to answer questions and provoke thoughts, and things that are answers to questions. The first will never lose its importance to be taught; the second has started to.

Hmm, I don't see the big deal with this?
People do what they do. There's a massive number of middle-aged people with serious back/neck/arm problems because of sitting at a computer, but the big deal is just typically on teens? And such hate for it? Some of you seem so highly opinionated.
I am a "teenager". I know jack shit just like everyone else out there, including you. 8000 texts a month, so what? Sure you can get angry, but you're not escaping the mold of humanity. Rage all you want, you are running yourself into the ground.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.
This happens every time there is a new media or fad that tends to be more popular with youth instead of older generations. This is almost a replay of what happened when the telephone came out: everybody was worried that people would become illiterate because of the lack of the necessity to write letters.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. It's important that teenagers have better intelligences of the past. When you speak of remembering certain things, you are speaking of knowledge. When you talk about problem solving, critical thinking, and logical thinking, you're speaking of intelligence. The need for knowledge that is not required to learn certain skills has waned because now that there's a giant database which anyone can acquire such information on a whim. But still, I see the value of teaching such knowledge because it helps one gain perspective of the world.
I'm not sure why I'm arguing that point seeing as I like to learn all of the things school teaches me, even the useless facts. I'm pretty sure Lezen is dead wrong in his original statement. I also think he's only paying attention to the bad and not the good.
