Things you want to talk about but can't find a place

Do you have random things you want to discuss with people, but do not want to start a thread about them, and can never quite find anyone right to discuss with in reality? Then post them here, and we shall talk amongst ourselves.

And I'm trying to write a story again but as usual I can't get motivated. Any suggestions for getting motivation for something?

Yes, I have a couple suggestions.

Write anything. Right now - just start writing. Turn off your inner critic, toss off your aspirations for the next thing you right to be literary perfection, and just WRITE. Forget about "motivation." You WANT to do it or you wouldn't be trying. What you're looking for isn't motivation... you are already motivated. You're just afraid to start.

It is MUCH easier (for me, anyway,) to go back and refine and rewrite something that's already been written than it is to get the writing done in the first place. It is much easier (and more likely) to polish a steaming pile of crapola into a fine piece of writing than it is to write the next Jonathan Livingston Seagull in a single pass on your first try.

      So write! There's your motivation.

      Next?

Just wondering whether there are any cosmology/physics nuts out here other than me on DreamViews?

(Cosmology is about the universe in general)

Also, how can I strengthen my willpower?

I could be considered along those lines, what do you want to discuss?

That's a funny question, it seems so obvious to someone who has a lot and so distant to some one who doesn't (I've been on both sides ).

Anyways, discipline through martial arts is what really did it for me, but it probably has a lot do do with my personality type also... The simple answer is "just will it!" .

My thing would be history, anyone here a history buff? How about classical litterature (I mean REALLY classical, Homer, Herodotus, Virgil... that kind of stuff)?

I consider myself a writer and I have very similar issues lsead. The best thing to write about is something you know to be true. Also realize being to critical does little good. It may not be up to your mind's par, but what most don't realize is that in a couple months your new writing is as goo the first time through as it was with many revisions prior.

You want to write a novel right? What kind?

I'm not obsessed with the subject, but I am a (rank) amateur astronomer and really enjoy physics and astrophysics.

And I read Astronomy magazine! Does that make me a 'nut'???

PJ I kind of have to disagree with the motivation thing there. I think motivation for writing is wanting to write. He does not want to write... he wants something to be written. At least for me, I know that I really, really want to get good at an instrument. There is definitly a factor of motivation that is involved though. The willingness to do the work which will end up pleasing you in some way. Without motivation, you want the pleasure factor but do not want to do the work.

I am certainly no stranger to struggling with motivation issues; in business, writing, composition and advancing on my instruments.

You may well disagree, but I am talking from my own experience here. Waiting for motivation never got me anywhere. Maybe it's just me, but it is so.

If I want something done, I just have to do it. Once a thing is started, motivation to make it good invariably follows. You would think that after all these years I'd be past that inner voice constantly whispering that the next thing I get motivated to do will be done to perfection, and then waiting for that motivation to come out of fear that if I'm not motivated then the effort will not be worthy of my glorious expectations.

Translating Virgil at the moment in Latin. It's kind of tough. Willing to talk about it though

I don't know, I guess I was a bit strong with "nut". However I just like talking physics. We had a topic about the speed of light back in Beyond Dreaming. That was kind of cool.

I propose the question: Why is the speed of light set at the speed of light. Why isn't it faster or slower. It's like 0 degrees kelvin. You can't go any colder than that. But why is it so?
