These guys did it first.
They did their second "Mario Marathon" a week or so ago. These guys started the trend that the Final Fantasy guys are doing.
I just found this site, and it's interesting.

^A Final Fantasy marathon would be more hardcore, however. There probably aren't quite as many FF games as there are Mario games, but your average Mario game takes a much shorter time to beat. Try beating even the shortest FF game in one sitting, you'll never make it...unless you would like a very unhealthy dose of sleep deprivation.
I'd personally like to see a Mega Man marathon - not just TOS, MMX, and MMZ, but also every other spinoff in existance. Mega Man has to be the series that has the most games...EVAR.

Awesome. How do they make money though? *feels stupid or haven't read something through carefully enough*

Well unless you're completely retarded, you have more than one person playing. At least one of you sleeps at a time. Hahaha. And while I do admit that Final Fantasy games are more "hardcore", I think Mario games are way more appealing to watch. Final Fantasy is fun if you're playing it, but honestly it's like watching golf. That, and to add to the mariomarathon team's "hardcoreness", they played every mario game, and then went back and got 100% in everything. That means they beat super Mario Galaxy 3 times.

Yeah, well imagine if these fools went and "got 100% on everything". In that respect, FF's still one jump ahead in the "hardcoreness factor". Not that it even fucking matters, as I'm not nearly man enough (or loser enough) to even attempt what these guys are doing, let alone do it with 100% completion - even if I had enough friends to play all 12 FF games simultaneously, it'd still be way more trouble than it's really worth.
Anyway, FF games ain't all that boring to watch, unless of course you're watching someone spend sixteen hours doing nothing but level up by fighting the same damn enemies over and over again. If you're watching them progress with the storyline, it's fine, and mildly entertaining. But for assholes like me who just have to get Aeris' "Great Gospel" Limit Break every time I play FF7 - even knowing her fate - it'd be quite possibly the most boring thing you could ever witness in your entire life.
