I was chased home by thugs last night... and I can't run as I have a limp... unfortunately no CCTV because it was a residential area. But this why CCTV exists. CCTV is/was the best invention for years in policing and crime fighting. We should have a camera at any corner.

CCTV cameras probably aren't as useful as you think in that kind of scenario. when it comes to identifying somebody, the majority of the time CCTV cameras are useless - even when nothing is cloaking the face. fear tactics will probably make you think other wise. i watched a documentary recently, and even though a full, violent incident was captured from beginning to end - the criminals didn't get prosecuted because the cameras are crappy; not enough evidence, they said. this happens a lot. it isn't like the presence of cameras deter anybody, either.

but then again, CCTV cameras are useful in town centers on busy nights - as the police can intervene or catch some trouble makers in the act. so, i am not completely against them.

sorry but CCTV's are kinda crappy and they are an invasion of privacy and an erosion to our rights if placed in every fucking street corner.

i just totally am against any surveillance in public whatsoever, the only places that need CCTV is:

Expensive stores
Supermarkets
ATM's

and any other area that needs security

but every street corner? NO, NO, NO, NO..

You're not really basing that on anything are you? I mean, I don't really care if somebody can watch me walking on the street. There's a bunch of people around me who can do the same.

Apathy is whats wrong with America, Americans just sit on their asses while their liberties are being sucked away and all Americans are doing about it is NOTHING.

Being apathetic about camera's on every street corner is another step closer to a totalitarian government that tracks and watches every citizen.

do you really want that? a totalitarian government? a government that ALREADY can look through all your emails, instant messages, financial records, phone calls, now you say CCTV on every corner is a good idea?

why not just give up your right to live while you at it and give your life for 'security'

actually, they've done it before and they'll do it again, every year email records and phone calls get sent to the govt for review for 'terrorist' activity

Where did you hear all this? Sure, they have access to all the mails, and they might run through the mails with a smart searching machine, but is that a problem for you? It's only if your mails contain VERY questionable material, that they'll even think about checking who the mail was made by.

You're not backing this up at all, and I doubt that you can.
And no, I'm not gonna drop it, because right now you're spouting out highly doubtful information.

You shouldn't necessarily be worried that they ARE doing it, but you should be very worried that they CAN do it. If the route is open for one person to come along and test the limits of this power, you can rest assured that someone will take that route. If it is LEGAL to pour over every word of an innocent person, then they'll do it whenever they damn well please, whether there is an "official" reason or not.

I suppose it's a good thing I live in Denmark. As far as I know, we don't have any corruption of importance in our current government.
