Thread: What is Happening to our Precious Dream Views?

Dream Views problems go way deeper than all that. I really hope that things get worked out though, because it would be a real shame to see this place go even further downhill.

Eh, it was bound to happen sooner or later. All that needs to happen is Dreamviews needs to hit the lowest of lows, so that it can just be rebuilt back up. Once it hits the bottom, it has nowhere to go but up, so lets just wait for it to hit rock bottom, then it can be fixed.

I agree there are some major issues to address but I don't think our biggest issues right now are disrespect and bad attitudes, though obviously these are things that we can all improve.

I'm not enlightened to the other issues, but I figured it went deeper than that. I think if we work on that, then we can solve the other problems (depending on what they are, of course.)

I think it should be mandatory to have at least one <3 in every post.

Yup. There are a number of people that come on here with the apparent intent to do nothing but put others down. And why not? Having a shitty day, problems at work, school, whatever? Why not come here where you're faceless and "tough" and bring others down with you? It's perfect. And there's no way to stop it. People will keep doing it. As selfish as it sounds, that's why I hate the idea of DV getting any bigger than it already is. With more new people, comes opportunity for more bullshit. More than already exists that is.

But in all seriousness, the only way to fix the apparant problems of troubling users, would be to close registration and prune out those who cause the problems.

As for the "Deeper" problems, I think the only ones capable of fixing that, is the administration, and if they haven't fixed it yet..... then I dunno.

Who are these bad people?

In my experience the only trolls here seem to be the 75's; who are well meaning really. They never do anything really bad. Who are we referring to?

I don't know. I'm fairly new here, so I don't know how it was before I joined, but I've seen way worse forums. I don't think closing down registration is a legit option, anyway. That's just a way of postponing the problem and you'd also let out the people that are willing to invest good time and effort in LDing.

I don't think temporarily stopping the flow of new members coming in would be a very good idea at all.

I still think more member-run institutions, like the Newsletter, that aren't solely about lucid dreaming and have obvious benefits (shiny stickers) and encourage members to want to make the community good would fix things.

People should want to help DreamViews as a community, rather than just come here to rant. There should be positive outlets for the Off-Topic activity.

Or something. I have no opinion on the matter, essentially.

The solution is quite simple: keep an open mind and respect people. I know it's impossible to get along all the time, but you should at least put forth an effort. Over the years, the people here a Dream Views have become like a family, and it would be a tragic thing if that bond was severed.

I don't see what you see, Hazel. I feel like levels of respect (or lack thereof) have been pretty constant for a long time now. There are other issues at present that are bringing DV down, but certainly not that. I am utterly baffled by your observation.

What exactly is the problem? I know that flaming happens in the Religion and Extended Discussion forums, but that has always been the case. Plus, everybody who wasn't born last week knows what he/she is getting into when he/she enters a political or religious discussion. Those are the two most provocative topics known to mankind. I agree that people should be more respectful in those forums, but they are not bringing down the whole site or even those forums. People pretty much never flame in the dreaming forums. Also, what are these "other problems" people are talking about? This is the greatest web site I know of. What is the problem?
