Thread: When I was a kid...

I remember my father had me convinced that he could manually change the traffic lights from red to green, using a toggle switch on the console of his car. In reality, he would just time the light change by observing the transition of the adjacent traffic signal and then flip the switch just as the signal would turn.

Oh...and I also thought that dry-humping could get girls pregnant. I can't recall who told me that, but I believe it was a ploy to discourage me from said activity.

two things...

one: i thought that before a certain time in history there was no color. my evidence was all of the movies and photographs in black and white... then inexplicably in COLOR! i thought that everything was black and white... and then something... some amazing thing happened and the whole world got colored... but nobody 'effing talked about it... and it made me paranoid.

two: when i was really really young i thought that stars were our air holes and we were all in a big shoe box. or so i'm told... i think this theory still holds water however... that's why i can't live in big cities... not enough air... :shock:

I used to think that when babies were born, they came out of the mommy's thigh. That's what my mom said I believed when I was like 3, but I don't remember ever thinking that.

Also, I remember when I was like 6, thinking that when you had sex, the guy just stuck it in and held it there for a few minutes. When I found out years later that repeated humping was involved, I nearly died of shock!!

when people said "tornado" i thought "tomatoe" on the radio a guy said something like a "tornado killed 23 people" and i pictured a giant tomatoe

i also thought eating junk food would make me "grow down".

the only thing i can think of now is that i used to believe in the chubacapra....hm......

ha i have a few but i can only remember this one for now...
i used to think that when you got in to a car and drove off .... wait for it..... that the roads and every thing else would move and the car would just sit there.

o and another thing i used to talk to my middle fingers lefty betty and righty rob and stroke them ha
i would say stuff like you arnt that bad of a finger. are you. you know the whole "birdy thing"

I believed that america was basically as the wild west is portrayed in movies.
Crazy cowboys shooting indians etc.

I used to eat batteries while in the washing machine. Well, not so much eat as just...lick them. I don't get why either. Go away.

Sooo...you licked batteries while you were in the washing machine? Or they were in the washing machine? But how could you lick them if they were inside and you were out?

Anyway...

When I was five, I thought everyone in the world was Caucasian, and Catholic, and every nation in the world had a President (like ours). I also thought guys had vaginas because I hadn't seen a penis yet. Then I was in this changing room at a public pool and was walking by this mother helping her son change and I was like "Whoa, WTF is that!?"

I used to think that the world was perfect and everyone was all hunky dory and adults had intelligence. I knew santa was never real, but I assumed many people had santa's attitude. I thought there was a rabbit driving the moon, cause thats what it looks like in australia. I was wrong and came to realize just how screwed up the world really is.

I also day dreamed about building a ladder to the moon to prove it was not made of cheese.

I used to think that people never died and that they just grew bigger... one day my dad was like something "eat your dinner so one day you will become big and strong" and i thought strong eq fat so I imagined me and my dad all fat and tall and people running away from us in the streets and screaming, and then my dad saying "Don't worry, we're nice!"

I don't remember who told me this but I knew that when a mommy and a daddy wanted to have a baby... um they um well... I knew that the "weewee" went in the "whowho" but I thought that they only had to do it once. If they wanted to have a baby then they would just have to think about having a baby and the mommy would get pregnant since they had already "done it" once!!!

Oh I also believed that cross breeding species was possible. Like dog-cats, and fish-people etc. No one had seen one yet, because.....uh, I was 4, I didn't think ahead on that one.

Well hey, maybe not by the ol' 1-2-3, but modern science can cross breed species 'til the frog-cows come home!

When I was a kid I used to think that people with handicaps were incapable of being evil or prejudiced.. I don't know why I felt that way.. I just did.

I believed this fully until I was 9 years old and got on a school bus with a blind girl who proceeded to tell her friend in a loud voice why she hated "n*ggers". Since I went to an all White school I guess she felt it would be safe to say such a thing. Little did she know that I was sitting directly behind her. Well.. the whole bus got quiet and her friend whispered to her that the girl sitting behind you is Black. Needless to say.. she never rode the bus again.

I had always felt bad for her and had treated her kindly as I'd been told that she was blind since birth. I still find it ironic that she could hate a race of color she'd never seen.

Another piece of my innocence lost..

On a sillier note.. I used to believe that once you started to read a book you had to finish it or start reading it all over again from the very beginning! I finally figured out that you were allowed to simply start reading from where you left off!

now i remember...i used to think that in order ot pay for gass all you had to pay what it said on the board-Like 2 bucks...

i used to think that if you didn't hold on to the ground after falling, then you'd float up into the sky. i also used to think that if you wore a life-vest and jumped, then you'd float on air.
