Why must the Swiss be so goddamn different?

At the moment of this post, there are around about 243 nations in the world, give ro take a few depending on how strict your criteria are for something to be considered a "nation".

Some of these counties are populated mostly by white people, some by black, some by yellow. A few also have lots of red people, brown people, and funny shades in between. The may also be purple people, and a large winged creature that hunts and eats them, but I'm not totally sure on this last point.

However, no matter what funny colour people these countries have, almost without exception, ALL of these countries have rectangular flags.

Except Switzerland. Switzerland has a sqare flag. It's not even SLIGHTLY rectangular: it's a perfect sqare. They're not the only ones, either: the Vatican also has a square flag.

And you think that's bad? No, no, no, there's worse.

Nepal. Nepal has a weird double triangle flag... it doesn't even have four sides! IT's got FIVE, dammit, FIVE!!! The state flag of Ohio, too, has five sides, but then again, nobody really gives a shit about Ohio anyway, as it's just a crap state in a bigger, messier and crappier country.

But, we're still left with the deviant anti-rectangular nations of Switzerland, Nepal, and the Vatican. These nations are EVIL, and must be stopped, lest their anti-rectangle conspiracy persist, and gradually turn other nations to their cause.

And if that happens, I ask, what NEXT? Triangular flags? Circular flags? Random polygonal flags?

No. NO, I tell you all, this must stop. This far, and no further.

The leaders of the world need to get off their collective asses and do something about this heinous travesty of anti-rectangularism. RISE, RISE people of the world, stand up and tell your leaders to ACT! Act, NOW, before it is too late!!!!!!

That's neat abou the flags, though. Can't blame a guy (or in this case, a country) for wanting to be unique.

This may be true. BUT if this anti-rectangular conspiracy is allowed to continue, this very well may be what will happen.

Actually, the great popularity of the rectangular design in flags sources out what have once been the general use for such flags, as regimental banners that could help commanders at a distance to identify the dispositions of troops on the battlefield. No little square flag could do the job quite so well as an unfurled long rectangular one.

Taken in that light, it should be appalling that so many Nations are still harboring these militarist traditions.

One would think that a Peaceful World could do with many less battleflags.

That's very true, Leo. If people would be a little more peaceful, spherical flags could lord over the flag universe. I think if there is an anit-rectangular flag conspiracy, I want to be first on the list of members.

Oh great somehow Bush is going to get a hold of this post and BAMM WWIII. All of a sudden the US is in mortal danger from nonconformist flag nations or "terrorist" if you will and the only way to protect the country is to combine church and state and monitor citizens every action.
