I always thought it was an East coast thing myself. We played it every summer at the beach with our New Joisey relatives.

I'm all for a DV game of Euchre.

The only people I've ever known (for a few days, at that) who knew how to play Euchre were from Michigan. It was once my goal to learn it, but it has yet gone unfulfilled.

I love euchre...but it's one of the most annoying games to teach people how to play haha.

I view Euchre as an entry-level type thing to get people addicted to trick-and-meld games. Folk tend to move on from there into Pinochle... and the real hard cases sometimes take that final dive into Bridge.

Entry-level? It shouldn't be a problem for me, then, as I've had some experience with Pinochle. My parents play it all the time.... but I've yet to be invited to play with the adults at reunions

I prefer to beat them at Hand and Foot anyway.

Is that the game where you pair up and have to get 'tricks' or something (shut up Seeker that's not what I mean )

I totally didn't understand the rules when someone tried to teach me that one before hehe

Yeah...the left and right bowers and all that stuff. Most people don't find it exactly easy to learn. =P

Only thing I remember is the "renege" thing. Was the first time I ever heard that word, and since I was playing with a couple "rednecks" I assumed it was some southern racial slang.

No, it really isn't. It's used in many card games, when a mistake is made or a rule broken. When you renege, you lose the hand and usually go set.

Right, I wasn't saying I still thought it was a slang, just sounded like one when I first heard it.

I can't remember in what context it's used in the game, though - I forget the rules. But I think if you have a particular card in your hand that can be played, you HAVE to lay it down, even if you're better off keeping it (something like that). Then if you lay the card down later and the opposing team realizes that you had the card, they call out with "you reneged". And then all hell breaks loose - cards are thrown, chairs go flying, carpet gets stained...

      Sorry, I have

I know that you do that in "Spades"... which is another game I love.

LOL, yep - That sounds about right... especially after the customary 6 pack of beers for each player.
