Thread: Chatspot and guests?

Sorry about the chatspot forum being down - the server was broken recently and the admin (icedawg) hasn't been able to find the time to fix it.

Is it possible that guests can chat in the chatspot-chat?? [/b]

Right now, no they cannot chat.

Hmm, I think yes. I've been taking some good, long hard stares at the code recently and enhancing it, and it relies on the users being registered. For example, if we allowed guests, we'd have to rewrite /kick as it would no longer work (it relies on keeping your username right now). Also it would complicate things and new features that might get added. Still, I know where you're coming from - having guests able to chat is something that would defintely be nice to have, but I'm not sure if it would work out. It would open chatspot up for crackers, too - as they wouldn't have to register and go through any logging systems you might have set up for phpBB.

But don't take my word for it at all - I'm not an developer and the decisions are up to icedawg.

Besides, it would take away an incentive for registering.
