      Hacking, etc.

(Re: Hacked on Tuesday, December 21st)

This is just a general thread I'm starting in case anyone wants to express sentiments regarding the troll.
Each new day is a chance to turn it all around.

The internet is a breeding ground for assholes. You could have a decent 'real-life' person get on the internet and suddenly he turns into a troll.

What bothers me the most is that while in the real world you couldn't walk into a business or home and destroy all the property there without a thorough investigation, but on the internet there is practically nothing to protect you.

I suppose that the troll would want us to be upset over this so I'm not going to say much more. I'm glad that there wasn't much damage done at least.

not sure if anyone read the message from that guy from www.hackthissite.org, forgot his nickname.
but the script the person used came from there, someone from there posted a message saying that the person who did it was a lame moron who just used the script so it wasnt even a hacker, just a loser who thought beeing a script-kiddie was cool.

I'm actually quite annoyed by this... every stinking damn post I've made in the past several days is now *poof* gone. Even my dream journal! What a useless troll!

well, even worse, we lost the Peña storyline on the DV bar, but you don't see me complaining...

*realizes that is precisely what he is doing*

      erm...oops...

Anyway, to Mr. Super Fancy Hacker out there....you will pay. One way or another, you will pay. I can tell you that much...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

I guess it is the Santy.A.worm? Was it the "This site is defaced!!! "-message? Thousands of sites have been hacked.
      http://www.pandasoftware.com/about/press/v...cia=5766&ver=21
ld4all is also vulnerable (phpBB 2.0.10), so I hope it's true what Google says and the worm is blocked.

As I expressed in the DG forum, I knew that there was an critical vunl. in our version of phpBB (well, techboy knew). It was all over the phpBB forums recently, lots of screaming and "OMG UPDATE THIS! OMGOM OGMOGMGOMGOMG!". At least we have a backup from last week - however, it's gonna leave us with a ripple effect, and we're going to just have to live with it.

Still, I'm not updating my password. It's not an real word (combination of several unrelated words), so unless a hacker wants to spend *alot* of time hacking *my* account when all I am is a DG, I doubt it. Besides, they've already "won" as far as they care. They hacked, they destroyed, they don't care.

We've lost lots of good things now, and lots of really important topics have been lost, philosphy discussions have been backtracked... Oh well, I think the morale of the story is keep up to date.

i hate idiots like this, especially script kiddies. theyre just fucksocks that like to destroy peoples work. i hope in the coming years the internet gets to be a safer network for people to enjoy rather than be able to destroy and upset people over for fun.

and at christmas too....how sad that he has nothing better to do....

From what I read in the announcement, it sounded like only certain configuations and servers were pervious to this particular exploit; I didn't think at all that we'd be one of them.

if you had stopped there, you would have actually said something positive for once. how about just this one time you try and remain positive alright? it could have been a lot worse, but we're fine and we'll be fine.

Don't know if it's just a coincidence, but since last night I've received two phishing emails to my Yahoo! account (which I have listed on DV) asking me to enter my E-Bay account info -- and I've never even used E-Bay.

Also had someone IM me this morning that I had never added to my contact list -- when I said I was from DreamViews they said "where?", and then "I don't know you, bye". The Messenger account was devilboychris@hotmail.com with a screen name of "WAHOO!!! My first eva trophy!". Wonder if this is related to some kind of hacking contest.

Also got an IM invitation to a group chat from richard130890@hotmail.com -- I don't think this is anyone on my list either. I was away from my desk when it happened, there were three other people in there, all they did was ask "who r u?" and "who is in here?"

Like I said, it could be coincidence, since my info is pretty easy to find, but I normally don't get much phishing stuff that makes it past my Yahoo's spam filter, and rarely, if ever, does anyone IM me that I haven't placed on my contact list.

I've been through worse hacks on forums with a fraction of the members DV has. Completely starting from scratch in empty boards. It'll be fine. I'm actually seeing some interesting topics I'd missed because the volume of topics is so great in some of the forums, General, for instance, that you'd never be able to keep up with the new stuff if you went back a week.

You could go to your stored pages and extract most anything you've seen up to time of the hack and repost it word for word.

I did experience my first phishing IM on yahoo, post-DV registration, but it was prior to the hack. Also likely to be a coincidence.
