Yeah I heard about that on that Joe Rogan explains life mp3. It sounds really interesting and worth a read. The problem is that Im in japan and dont have easy access to english books![]()
So, I've been reading a book by Rick Strassmann, M.D. entitled "DMT: The Spirit Molecule". This doctor's thesis is that the pineal gland is the origin and producer of natural altered states of concioussness, being released at different points in development including birth, near-death, and ultimately death. He goes on to state his belief that this pineal gland and it's corresponding substances may possibly have something to do with human life force occupying it's physical confines id est the soul manifest. I find it unbelievable that further study has been blocked on what could be an extremely significant subject which could have far-reaching implications on the relationship between science and religion.
A notable idea he wrote about in his book was that of fetal development and the tibetan book of the dead. 49 days after conception the pineal gland releases its first burst of DMT directly into the cerebrospinal fluid. The Tibetan book of the dead says that seven weeks after one's death, one is reincarnated into a new human form. He recognizes the possibility of mere coincedence, but I thought that was pretty cool connection to grasp.
Anywho I'm just blah-ing, so yeah, go read the book.

You might happen to know where to find said Mp3? A link maybe?

should be the third one, im not 100 percent sure that link works tho, just try it
Why?
Crap. I had no idea it was involved with heavy REM sleep. This is completely fascinating.
Holy shit, DMT from grass. That's crazy. I'm freakin' saving this.

I'm definitely going to pick that title up. I've heard great things.
i heard about this book a couple years ago but forgot about it. looks like i'll be adding it to my growing waiting list for books.
thanks for the reminder![]()
(i almost got ahold of some DMT extract a few months ago, but i had to leave town before the chemist came throughand so my three year search continues...)

Is there a way one could extract DMT themselves without running the risk of ending up in a psych ward or prison? How does one know the potency? Is it dangerous to extract it yourself?

Yes, you can, but you have to be reasonably well educated about the extraction process and of course have the equipment. I wouldn't say it's dangerous but it costs money. And coincedentally, as I was reading that book I've decided to become a chemist. lolOriginally posted by SolSkye

EDIT: Wait, I just did it for you, but a google search pulled up a LOT of links. http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dmt/extrac...on_guide1.shtml

unless you are trained or well-educated in chemistry i certainly wouldn't recommend it. DMT in its various forms is the most powerful hallucinogen known to man, and is extremely active in very small doses.Originally posted by SolSkye

Unless you're taking intravenous doses, no, I don't think so. As long as you have some idea in milligrams of how much pure crystal you have you can either 1 measure it and smoke it or 2 when ingested orally. There is only a high risk of overdosage if you delibrately go past a strong dose (40 - 60 mg smoked).

In all the clinical studies listed on DMT there has been no case of toxic effects even well above normal dosages.

Since that person speculated about endogenous DMT's role in dreams, meditation, birth, near-death, and death. That would be funny if one were to smoke a ridiculous amount and somehow found a loophole to reach enlightment, and just vanished.
*You smoke*
You: *Cough, Cough* I wonder if it's supposed to burn your lungs this mu...*pop*
Your friend: WTF!![]()
Basically smoke the same amount that is released by high-level monks that seal themselves in a mountain as they are about to reach enlightenment and and skip all the years of toil/meditation.![]()

My brother's roommate extracted DMT from some kind of root that is pretty easy to find. He's a big pothead and spends every waking hour putting out records on his small label, so I doubt it requires that much technical know-how. My brother smoked just the resin left on the bowl a few times, but the way he described even just that amount was pretty astounding...Pretty potent stuff.
DMT is naturally occuring in over a thousand species of plants and animals, including of course humans![]()
I've read everything erowid has to say about DMT - the trip reports are very interesting. Some of them sound a lot like near-death or extremely spiritual experiences. The closest thing I've had to anything like that was morning-glory induced ego death, which was an incredibly enlightening experience. One can only imagine the potential of the DMT molecule, it's really a shame that it's illegal to posses (even though it's right there in our bodies!)

Yet another example of the ineptitude and ignorance of the governing body over the freedom of humanity. We are only free to do as they say.
The most intense trip I have experienced was with Salvia Divinorum in which I was transported and dissassembled into who I am at a basal level, beyond my ego. While it was utterly terrifying, it was quite beautiful in retrospect... Something so joyful shouldn't be so repressed.

The book, "The Spirit Molecule" was a wonderful book. My father required that I read it before I had any psychadelic experiences....I thought it was very informative not to mention interesting.

DMT would not be that hard to obtain if you take the ethnobotanical route and do an ayahuasaca brew. However, oral DMT requires the use of an MAOI to have any profound effects, which means that it won't be a purely DMT experience. You can freebase DMT crystals but obtaining the crystals and/or doing an extraction yourself would most likely prove difficult and untrustworthy.
This is my one peice of big advice though:
DO NOT assume this is the path to enlightenment because there are connections to it. Go to Erowid.org and read the trip reports, including the BAD trips. That resource is a much more reality-based account of what a would-be DMT tripper is getting themselves into. The information in this thread is purely theoretical, the trip reports there are what is actually experienced.
I agree entirely with the above ^. Everybody reacts differently so know your doses and be prepared for the trip mentally and physically.

i just finished this book (dmt: the spirit molecule), and i will also recommend it for everyone to read--it's probably one of the most fascinating and complete accounts of research into any psychedelic. the most interesting aspect of the book to me, was the number of subjects' experiences involving being 'transported' to a highly technologically advanced laboratory of some kind, occupied by 'beings'. in several experiences these 'beings' referred to DMT as a kind of technology "we are pleased you have discovered this technology", or something to that effect. there's another book dealing partly with ayahausca (DMT combined with an MAOI for ingestibility) called "the cosmic serpent" by jeremy narby. it was less enthralling than the spirit molecule, but there are also references to DMT, and mostly DNA, being technologies. the premise of the book is that the incans (now western peruvian indians) discovered the existence of DNA looooong before 1953 through drinking ayahausca. that's a much better way to learn science, says i, than sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher lecture.
