    Is there always a meaning?

Hi all, I'm new here - not in dream-land though. I've been having nightmares since as far as I remember and luckily discovered during my teens I could jump out of these as I realized they weren't real. I wonder if all dreams have a meaning. My friend says all dreams carry a message. I had a horrible nightmare yesterday. My brother was missing and after a long search we found him between piles and piles of garbage - his head, hands and feeth were cut of his body. It was a real shock to me and I've been having a bad feeling about this the entire day. Should this mean something to me???

let me start off by saying not all dreams can be interpreted. some dreams do have meanings, but alot of them are just a jumble of random thoughts. as for the dreams that can be interpreted, you are the only one who can find out what they mean. there is no 'dream dictionary', no 'symbols' that have exact meanings. you have to find out what they mean by fitting it to your every day life, example:

...a few nights ago I had this dream...I'm eating a sandwich and two kids approach me. they want some of my sandwich. I let them tear off a piece. before I knew it, they had ripped off most of it. I'm standing there with a very small piece...dissapointed..it's my favorite kind of sandwich and I'm really hungry...most of it's gone...I just stand there...

interpretation: I let people take advantage of me. all the time. they take things from me, slowly, piece by piece, they rip me appart....[/b]
there are SOME dreams, called precognitive dreams, that foretell teh future. I'll give an example as soon as I find it...

    ~_~

so, your dream could just be nothing, it could mean something you'd just have to figure it out, there are some other people who may be able to help you interpret it but I'm not so good at it...heh...there is a chance it could be a precog dream, but I seriously, seriously doubt it. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I think dreams are probably not completely random but you may be flattering yourself if you think everything your brain does is going to come in the form of a "message". The way I look at it, saying that dreams have messages is like saying that when your stomach growls it's a message from your innards that you need something to eat. Of course, you can still learn from your dreams.
"...all life is only a set of pictures in the brain, among which there is no difference betwixt those born of real
things and those born of inward dreamings, and no cause to value the one above the other. " H. P. Lovecraft

Paperdoll is right. Many dreams are just meaningless, while carry more weight. In part, this is determined by the value you yourself give to dreams.

Is there always a meaning? No.

Hi, i'm Lomebririon. I'm new too. I thought i'd kickstart my belonging to this board by tossing in my own 2 cents into this big ol' wishing well of lucid knowledge.
I've just finished studying dreams at school, so I hope I could be of some help. Dreams are a combination of past experiences, thoughts and ideas haphazardly thrown together to make a series of images or 'dream events'. What you have seen recently is probably a culmination of thoughts you have had, past nightmare-ish experiences and subconscious 'creepy vibes', all thrown together in a really spooky way, and subconsciously 'thrown at you really hard'. Just know you are not alone in dreaming things like this, recently my mother just had a recurring dream that I and some other people removed my brother's brain from his skull rather grotesquely.
Well, I hope I could help and welcome to the board from a fellow newbie.
The best times of your life should not be when you're still so young, or else you'll live a life always dreaming of the past.

Dream interpretation is one of my favorite things...
But no. Not all dreams have meaning. Some do, and some, when interpreted, will tell you something you already know. And then some are complete nonsense.
I think that's already been said, so...I'll dance my butt over to another forum now.

I must say that I do not think all dreams can be interpreted its kinda tough interpreting a lifetime of experience that was one dream, how could one know such a full life only being 24 some things should be taken at face value...

I do beleive that some dreams are the brain jsut kinda going through itself making sense of daily experiences and such... but some dreams... no they are not that at all. And when you experience them, you will know, you will not have to interpret.

    His heart knows only virtue.
    His blade defends the helpless.
    His might upholds the weak.
    His word speaks only truth.
    His wrath undoes the wicked."

Impossible is only that which has yet to be imagined
