Thread: What keeps your body alive, if you aren't in it?

Oh, that's easy. For me, since OBE'ing is probably a WILD, you don't actually leave your body and leave it a "shell without a soul" or something, you can't die. Also, I don't think souls exist, so...well, it can't happen.

Actually that's what I'm out to proove...if souls exist. My experiment is simple...but if it works then I will be able to proove that souls do exist...and if it fails then I will still be questioning. I think I'll have to try the experiment a few times. I just need the time to take a darn nap!! Which I don't have right now.

Care to tell me about the experiment? A few grumpy people looking at it, and they could spot any possible problems with it. And it's nice.

Well I don't want to tell anyone about it until I actually try it once. But as soon as I do I will let you all know exactly what I did. I'm thinking I will be able to try tomorrow during the day...we'll see!! I'm excited...I hope that doesn't screw up my results.

OBE's are different from NDE's. Many during an OBE have seen their "silver cord" while out of body. Presumably this is in fact what keeps our bodies attached to our conciousness or astral self. We read about it in Ecclesiastes in the bible in respect to Solomon, who married many wives including Eastern of surrounding natiuons to keep the peace in Israel. It is thought that they taught him eastern mystical practices, such as what we call today, astral projecting.

From what I've heard, your consciousness doesn't actually leave your body, but rather makes a "copy" of itself. Your basic vital functions are still controlling your body to keep it alive, but your outward experience is happening somewhere else. It's like the conscious vs. unconscious self. You can daydream, or dream all you like but your unconscious mind is what is controlling your heart rate/breathing/etc. This is the idea for AP, but I'm not sure about OBE's...where's wer when we need him?

Everyone should be familiar with Robert Monroe. He really had obe talent. I recall reading his first book when in my teens. He wrote three altogether. He too talked about several astral bodies in the same manner the above person spoke of.

lucidnina, Just a practical suggestion - Do you think it's possible that your anxiety is due to worrying that you might be focussing too much on your subsonscious/feeling side of yourself and be losing touch with the so-called 'real' world?

Arg.. dammit. Have to type this again. Damn IE!

Have you considered these scenarios, and why they occur:
1) Hold your breath... you eventually pass out. And automatically start breathing again. Why?
2) The conscious part of your brain is the big folded mass on top. The rest of the bits in the middle and lower regions are not conscious (in the same sense, at least). So what are they there for?

The obvious answer? The non - conscious areas of the brain do not travel anywhere while OOBE-ing.
Otherwise no-one would have lived to tell the tale

Does that mean the conscious area travels? Well obviously not physically.... I can't say I know what exactly happens to cause the effect.
I'm still not entirely convinced its not a very unusual state of mind similar to an LD (that feels completely different of course)
Has anyone actually noticed if they can experience things in the real world (while OOBEing) that they couldn't have known before?
