Yup, Im new.

Hello all. Came upon this site last night and read through the main pages. For the most part, I dont remember my dreams. Every couple weeks I will actually remember something when I wake up, but usually it gets so garbled by waking and hitting the snooze button and going back to sleep that Im never sure what it was I was dreaming of in the first place. If the logic centres of your brain shut off while dreaming, mine must stay like that until I hop in the shower because 7:23 never makes any sense to me as I look at my clock in the morning. "The Russians attack the Chinese at 7:23? Huh? What are those numbers for? Are they numbers?" Anyway...

I have had lucid dreams before, but I never knew how to classify them. Sometimes I would realize that I was dreaming, sometimes I would just discover I could control everything. Very rare though, and most of the time I just wake up after realizing I am dreaming. Im not entirely sure what 'sleep paralysis' is, but the closest thing I can relate it to is after I have left a dream, immediately before I wake up. I can tell the dream is over, and I know that if I open my eyes I will wake up. No 'buzzing' or anything like that, just blackness. I also dont understant Hypnotic Imaging. I dont recall having any stages to falling asleep, I just remember being awake, them nothing. If I consciously think about remembering my dreams, 1/2 the time I will. I even wrote down what I willed myself not to forget.

I have the odd nightmare too. The last one I had was very geometric, I guess youd call it. The scenery appeared to be made of squares and the sky was grey (i think), and we were floating on water in small boats. I remember that off in one direction everything was slightly darker than everything else. There was something wrong over there, like it was evil, only worse somehow. I got the heebee jeebees just looking that way. Then, it was like the darkness started to grow larger and darker. I realised that someone had drifted into the darkness, I called for them to come back, but they couldnt hear me. Then I woke up. I know it doesnt sound scary, but it scared me shitless.

Anyway, its 1 AM and I have to get up in an ungodly 6 hours. So much for staying up late over Christmas. Cheers.

First of all, hello [size=24] frsrblch

You say that you sometimes would just discover that you could control things. Sorry to say this, but without knowing that you're dreaming, it's not lucid dreaming. At least you knew you were dreaming sometimes though, congrats for that .

PM me if you ever need help, I know a hell of a lot about lucid dreaming and have been doing it a long while too. Also, don't be afraid to PM a drea guide (green guys) if you need any help also, its thier job.

Anyway, to try and help you with your questions, here we go. Do you keep a dream journal (henceforth known as DJ) ? If not, almost everyone here would recommend getting yourself one. If you need tips on journaling dreams, feel free to ask and I can describe kind of what I do usually. At least for me, journaling is essential to keeping my recall up and running.

Question #2: Sleep Paralysis. I don't personally know all of the chemics behind it, but when you go to sleep, you body releases a chemical that keeps your body from moving and acting out the things that happen in your dreams. It is commonly felt by people who are trying to remain "aware" when they're falling asleep and can find themselves unable to move, and with those waking up while still paralysed. It usually wares off after a short time if you experience it.

You said "Hypnotic Imaging" and were wondering about that. I think you meant Hypnogogic Imagery and that's basically what a person, as mentioned before, who is trying to go to sleep but still be "aware" will often see before entering a dream (aka. WILDing). It's not always seen before WILDs, but it is usually vague colors and shapes that become the dreamscape.

I believe the chemical youre referring to is acetylcholine, but dont quote me on that. I recall learning about it in Bio 30 (Gr 12 for those of you who use the 10, 11, 12 system for courses)(dont ask) along with neurons and synapses and all that. It makes it harder for your neurons to send messages, I forget how though. As for hypnotic imagery, I think I know what youre talking about now. Just before falling asleep I can see shapes and stuff that starts to form a dream. I only remember this when I come to the brink of sleep and my mind gets distracted. Pisses me off becuase I know I was that close falling asleep.

I started on of those DJ thingies, but so far I have only remember one of my dreams. Rode my bike to school, got a job at school, rode in the back of a jet powered 18-wheeler...and good thing I wrote it down because Ive forgotten the rest already.

Ugh...back to school sucks. I wouldnt have made it through the morning w/o that large double-double.
